tips for new comers to the strip?

just wondering if some of the experienced guys could throw out some tips for newbies...

ive only been to the strip once and done a few runs but that was many years ago and in a manual turbo 6. now im in an auto v8 and was wondering if there were some good tips for when i get a chance to go back....

i want to do some runs later in the year with all the basic mods before i get a cam and stally done so tips for a standard auto and 2800/3200 stally would be great

    cheers

Fit some slicks too it. Stall it up till it won't stall no more. When the lights drop, mash the loud pedal!

Its a bit more than 'mash the accelerator'.

In an auto, left foot on the brake and give it a small amount of revs while holding the car in place. Try and anticipate the green light as there is a slight delay in an auto off the line getting after you give it the gas. A foot flat on the gas will give you too much wheel spin, try and put the power down in a steady fashion and if you feel the wheels spinning, back it off a bit until you get some grip, then give it heaps.

    Our rule is everything out

Empty boot, inc tools, spare and jack etc
    Empty glove box,
    Empty console
    Extra floor mats etc
Any other crap sitting around in the car.

With a stock stally don't worry about stalling it up. Sit on the brake and squeeze the throttle down as hard as you can without much wheelspin when your ready to go.
With a high stall, stall it up.

also from what i've read here, place gear selecter in the 3rd position! let the computer and auto change the gears.
also search for markone2 "little red car"

Thanks guys, great advice. Interesting about "3". I heard this the other day as well. So by leaving the car in "3" it will launch in what ever gear the computer/auto thinks is best and then also shift through the gears as reqd?

Having in it in 3rd or drive makes no difference. All I did was stall mine up to it was about to start spinning, deflate rear Tyres and shed some weight. Good luck.

Re: tips for new comers to the strip?

run on street tyres if you have good quality hoops. Just don't bother with the burnout if you arent running on drag radials/slicks, you'll see plenty who do tear up street tyres but that's purely for show you wont actually go any faster. either drive around the water or just a quick spin of them after the water to get off any water you may have picked up.

also if you are lucky enough to run after a car who was running slicks/radials then try and line up your cars tyres with the strips that car has just laid down.

try and turn your car off when sitting still to avoid the engine heat soaking between runs, just make sure you have enough juice in the battery to turn the car on and off 30times. nothing worse than a dead battery in the staging lanes.

never ever ever have your air conditioning on at any stage, even if it gets to a bajillion degrees, you'll drop water on the track and ruin not only your day but it is very dangerous especially for anyone running on slicks after you.

the most important point is just to have fun, dont be scared to ask questions and make sure you get your timeslips after your runs. nothing shits me off more than sifting through the hundreds of them left around by people too lazy to collect em.

hope som of that helps and/or makes sense... early morning aren't my strong point.

To be honest I have no idea, iv only been once too. I think I deflated mine to around 25 psi but it's all trial and error.
