the reason you deflate the tyres as it helps with reducing wheelspin due to the torque and also puts more of a foot print on the road. I would run at 28psi, at that rate you would still be safe to get to bendigo to pump them back up (or home really for that matter) I think I read somewhere the top fuelers only run about 10 PSI in their rear tyres.

ps you only want to be doing this to the rear, keep the fronts still at 40. personally keep fluid in your washer bottle, youll be fine. However the reasoning behind this is that your not aloud to be able to drop fluids onto the track. So dont forget to buy yourself a bottle of coke before you get to the track, and recycle the empty by using it as a radiator overflow catch can
    I'm not a hoon, I'm just competitive

Lol yeah I no why you deflate the Tyres, wasn't sure if there was a certain psi people use hence the trial ad error remark haha

My 5 cents worth......driving on the street.....leaving it in 3rd, does make a difference.....i was told by my tuner who runs on the strip often.

It sharpens the shift up. To tell......pull hard at the lights in 3rd, when you get to around 70-80km/h foot off the accelerate then try the same in 4th, it changes differently and pulls quicker i think..........maybe 5% better.....who knows real numbers........but you can feel the shift changes different.

thats it i probably average 3 to 5 seconds reaction time !!!! little different as i,m holding it with handbrake trying to build 5/6 psi of boost before launch!!!!! a few seconds is acceptable!!!!! dont sit there for ages tho as crowd and officials will get the shits and bag you out!!!!cheers

The reason people say to run it in 3 is to ensure it doesn't shift into overdrive - the boxes dont like high speed WOT shifts into overdrive

That's what I thought. Have read that if you're giving your car a hard time keep the thing in 3rd so you don't burn out the 3/4 clutch.

I went to Willowbank for my first time at a drag strip last year when the car was stock with catback only. Found I was better of not trying to stall at all. Just foot down once the lights dropped. Ran with full pressure in rears on street tyres, didn't get any wheel spin. Best I managed was a 14.01@100mph (from memory). Keen to go back out now that I have had the tune and OTR.

With a bigger stall, giving it revs on the line just creates heat - just idle and let the stall flash when you mash the loud pedal.....

When I went down to wsid I didn't stall it up at all first 2 runs, that resulted in a 14.1 and 14.2. 3rd run stalled it up (stock stall) and managed a 13.8. First time is hard because you spend all of your runs trying new techniques to get a good time.

Re: tips for new comers to the strip?

is there any tricks with the V8 VE A6 box at the drags ? I don't notice much of a difference between normal and sports mode when encountering the odd traffic light drag.

Does anybody run down the strip with the traction control off ? i find if i get hard on it with the traction control off i just fry the tires, might be different of a tacky drag strip surface.

My sportswagon is our family bus with the standard OTR, full exhaust system and tune and I've always been keen to see what it would run down willowbank, should i be worried about being too hard on the car at the drag strip or are they pretty bullet proof ? just worried if i might break something

Fence sitter ...........*Traction Off * why retard the car before you begin ?.........Sports Mode is a Yes.......Filter out of OTRCAI ( A must do ).and truly... try and find some 17/ 18" Dr's ..or at the very least some semi Comp rubber..ie Toyo R888 / Nitto / RE55's etc..get in while the cooler weather prevails at Willowbank and you should see a low 13 at 106/7 mph dependant on tuner / weather conditions etc....

...ps...and enjoy, chances are very minor indeed you will break anything imho.
