    ve ute hard lids

    Hey everyone,

Ive tried using the search fucntion and came up with nothing.
Has anyone used or know of anyone who has used hard lids from Bodyline Automotive restyling, im interested to hear what people think of them, quality of product, finish, how well they fit etc.

    Website is http://www.bodyline.com.au/ute-lids-holden

However i first came across them on ebay and is probably the only ve twin hump style hard lid i actually like

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Holden-VE...ht_1547wt_1163

Any help will be greatly appreciated, if anyone has pictures it would be an added bonus.

    Cheers
    Matt

I have a factory twin hump lid and height adds to the rear blindspot considerably.

Have you had a look at the Lazerback lids? I bought one for my VU SS and I rated it very highly - I could even remove it by myself for those moments you want to carry something larger and the finish put the rest of the car to shame.

It looks like it sits quite low compared with the EGR fitted by Holden.

I have the EGR single scoop one fitted to my VE and it restricts the view worse than a Maloo, The EGR slinline one sits lower but I dont like the look of it. These ones look good but the biggest thing you dont wont when fitted is to see it leak at the front everytime it rains.

Yeah my thoughts exactly on the single scoop, way too thick and not a fan of the slight upturn at the end of it, the EGR slimline is ok but i think its too expensive again for what it is. Thats why when i saw these i quite liked it, sits quite low and has the double hump similar to what the VZ's had which i really liked, but how it sits at the front is one of the first things i noticed and rain getting in is something i definetly dont want. Thats why i was hoping someone here may have one or photos of someone that does.

Yeah, must admit I do like the look of those Bodyline lids, though am a little concerned at the made overseas bit. The guy I got my hardlid from almost three years ago also has two double hump styles and whilst the humps are far less pronounced if I was after one I'd go for one of his as they're locally made and I know his customer service is great. Even though mine was one of his early ones and they've been improved since then I've never had a problem. It doesn't leak at the front as far as I'm aware and I'm always opening/closing it to get my walker out - it just lets a little water in as it raises if water is sitting on it, but very little. See the eBay shop for flat-top2011.

Thanks heaps for that wonky, im assuming this is the guy your talking about that you got yours off, its pretty much exactly what i want

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLDEN-VE...ht_2681wt_1163

I know its the twin hump but prices seem to have climbed a little since you bought yours, i think you said you paid $1200 for yours, i understand though you got yours a while ago now though. Im just struggling to justify to myself $2000 for a hardlid lol. At the same time i dont want to buy something cheaper and have it fail. I know im asking the impossible though.

Might just have to wait and save a few more pennys lol.

    Cheers

Note that that price is with remote lid locking, which does add to the price.

This would be the one with the manual locks:

When I got mine I decided not to go for the automatic locking - potential extra point of failure.

    Re: ve ute hard lids

Hi Matt - yep that's him. He's actually on here as trevorturner though hasn't logged on for a few months. When I got mine it was as part of an introductory offer as he'd just started selling on eBay, plus it didn't have remote locking which I'm sure adds to the price. If that's not critical to you maybe ask him if he will do that lid without it for you and if so how much (tell him I said to ask if you like ). I know he's also working on a few new things including remote linear actuators like I have for automatically raising the lid (much cheaper than my American ones were) and some different sailplanes which apparently will be on the V8 Brute utes which he does the lids for.

    Re: ve ute hard lids

Cheers Wonky, yeah i actually just had a look at his proper website hes got, its $300 cheaper to have the manual locks but then you don't get the full smooth look lol. Damn i hate having to be scrooge lol.
The remote linear actuators i don't need, i would be interested to see the sailplanes though.
Ill just keep saving for the time being, ill think ill wait till i can afford one of these as they have the exact look i want and knowing its made in Australia i can trust the quality.

    Cheers

    Re: ve ute hard lids

One "problem" with the sailplanes is because they extend further back, similar to the Maloo ones, they require a different lid.

    Re: ve ute hard lids

yeah i figured they would, its all good though, as i said i might wait a little while, ive gotta head to wagga for 8 weeks later in the year for work so i might be able to organise something and pop down one weekend to pick one up as long as ive ordered of course, can save on shipping and stuff that way.

The sailplane project has grown from an idea to a point where RMIT are involved in the design and wintunnel evaluation of airflowmodeling. The first units will be tested by WRT racing and they will adapt to the Flat Top Flowline and GTO lids (which are used by the race utes) -watch this space

The Vietnamese Lids are imported and are not the same Honeycomb structure/weight or Type of FRP contruction the Flat Top use.

have a look at the feedback on Ebay (?????) specifically for lids

Hi trevor, thanks for the reply. I have decided im not going to go with the bodyline product now. I am definetly keen however to see the sailplane project and what comes of it with the other lid styles, i think i will hold off on a purchase until this has been released and ill make a decision from there.

    Cheers

doing the model work now, had to borrow my sons VE while he was on Honeymoon!!!! shhhhh!!! (to digitise the A surface) we will start the masters for the sailplane after model tests in windtunnel _mid March.
AS A result of tests its Funny weve discovered the spoilers on the back of the utes are a waste of time they run in disturbed Air!!!!! The Ford utes that won in Adelaide had NO spoilers on but ran the new Flowline Lids!!!- All the Holdens run with NO spoilers and run the GTO lids from **** Top!

    Re: ve ute hard lids

I have a Lazerback on my VE SS and think it's great. First one fitted had some issue where it didn't sit flat around the strut area, but they replaced it, no issues.

Fit is perfect, and it's flush with the ute, it's only about 5mm thick, so doesn't obscure vision at all. All others I've seen overhang around the sides and look a bit ugly. Lazerback is the flattest you'll find, hence avoiding the station wagon look some lids give.
