VE HSV, snapped rubber coupling and bolts.

Today in peek busy traffic, pulled out into a not so busy lane and gave it a boot full and BANG from under the car and lost all drive.

turn out I snapped the bolts clean off the rubber coupling where it bolts to the diff.

Im jsut glad I dont need a new tail shaft, the rubbers only $110 + some bolts and some tin beeting lucky me.

Not Uncommon remember posts back in 07 about the same issue

every high performance car i have seen with the rubber coupling either destroys the coupling or breaks the bolts at some stage... Just make sure when replacing the coupling you put it the right way as if fitted wrong it wont last

Same thing happened to me last year on my old E1 R8, although I only snapped one bolt clean through. Was enough to put a god awfull tremor through the car under any sort of load. The service guys said I must have been driving it extremely hard but I definitely wasnt at the time. It wasnt completely standard, had a tune and the bits (266rwkw) but not over the top crazy HP. They replaced ALL the bolts anyhow whilst they were there.

The car never felt the same after that, always seemed to have a strange shudder coasting at Hwy speeds. Traded that car anyhow so hope they had this issue sorted for th E3.

yeah some one mentioned to me today about maybe having the tailshaft rebalanced once i do the rubber .

not sure if im gonna , the only thing thats hit stuff is the rubber not the actual metal shaft.

If there shaft hasnt hit anything that you should be alright
    but
On the vx - vy's there is a spigot bush inside the tailshaft that sometimes gets damaged when the things let go, I assume a Ve has the same bush so that might be worth checking

    will have a look

i did notice there's a pin that comes off the diff for the tailshaft (like a locator) sopefully its not bent?

the rubber is shot, the heat sheild is only wrapped at the very back but majority is still about the tail shaft, it only happened and 50km/h odd and u clutched it straight away

only damage i could see was where the heat sheild bolts to the tank on each side, the bolts are in the heat sheild still and ripped out of the tank, im not replacing the tank just for that, ill aroldite them back in or sikaflex them in.

so long as the tank doesnt have a leak, i dont "think"it does..\

ill no more when i take it out on the weekend.

Re: VE HSV, snapped rubber coupling and bolts.

I broke one bolt and bent the other 2 on my 06 SS(noticed via odd vibration), told diff tramp is the main cause. My 08 ute has no tramp and even with 350+rwkws no dramas(and i checked the bolts as a precaution)

If its anything like the vt-Vz one you should be right to replace the centre bearing, aslong as you do it yourself, most places as soon as they seen the non replaceable uni's won't touch it until they put the replaceable ones in. I know that was the case with mine anyway!!
