    Searching

I've been using this forum for some years now, and it has never really come up to be a problem before. But how do I search the forum for:

    White E3 GTS.

If you throw that into the search engine, it simply searches white. I know it has something to do with word length etc but my search topic above would be a pretty relelvant and common. Similarly to anything to do with VE GTS or VT GTS or E2 HSV etc etc.....

Unless there is a trick..... Please tell me

The search function is shit on this forum as you said it doesn't pick up the little words. I Go to and type in whatever I want and put ls1.com.au on the end and it will bring up a few listings then click more from ls1.com.au and that's how you can search this site

Bloody good idea Bush. I have found it frustrating too.

    Re: Searching

The search function has been restricted to a minimum search term because if you just put in a search for GTS or E3 it would bring up half of the threads on the forum, which is not what you want.
To do a search on white E3 GTS you just have to put " around the search term, just as you have to on Google if you don't want it to substitute or ignore some search terms. This tells the search feature that you want to search for the whole term rather than just the individual words, so the minimum letter restriction doesn't kick in. Searching for "white E3 GTS" brings up 3 threads including this one.
    http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...t=White+E3+GTS
    http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...t=White+E3+GTS

If that's not enough results and you want to open it up a little more, you could try searching for "white gts", "white e3" or "e3 gts".

The forum search feature is not the problem, it's that most users don't know how to use search features of any site (including Google) to their full potential using boolean operators and wildcards (e.g. AND, OR, NOT, +, -, ", *, ?).
Notice how a lot of times when users post up new threads saying "I searched but couldn't find the answer so here is my question", and within a few minutes other users are posting links to existing threads that answer that exact question? Those other users don't use a different and better search feature, they just know how to use the existing one properly.

It's not shit as you put it .. there are limitations placed on the search terms to try and improve the quality of search results. The minimum length for any searched word is 4 characters, HOWEVER the following exceptions apply at the moment "VT VX VY VU V2 VZ VE LS1 LS2 LS6 LS8 L76" If you want any other 2 or 3 character words added to the allowed search strings then please make a request..

Most forums are the same but an be altered as sidey says with keywords added in as common searches. I can't remember if it allows commas to search specific words under 4 characters or not.
