Need a bit more info for anyone to give you an honest opinion, what sort of stroker kit were you looking at for the ls1 vs what sort of crate engine were you looking at?.
Ok...Heres a question I'll probably get shot down for, But what would make more power and torque? Would it be an ls1 stroked out to a 6.2 l, or a crate 6.2l? Say the heads on the ls1 were kept standard.

I would think a stroker ls1 would make more low torque. But will run out sooner than an ls3. Hard to say as I don't know of a stroker that doesn't run cam and heads. Given the choice I'd go ls3
iPhone 4
An L92 as oppossed to an ls1 eagle stroker kit.....Maybe?
Crate ls3. Better heads better intake and the option to stroke it down the track if u desire
I would go stroker. Reason being, the crate motor would have factory parts. And for only a little more you can build a tough forged stroker.
Crate LS3 for sure.
You'll never get the LS1 top end as good as the LS3 one and it opens the door to more options down the track to make some very serious mumbo.
You're wasting your money if you're building a 383 LS1 and bolting on stock heads.
All things equal it is not a fair comparison and in being fair a well setup 383 will make good power in top end comes more down to cylinder head selection and camshaft selection. The general answer you will get from most here is to go an LS3 but I would advise find someone with a 383 and go for a run as are quite deceiving they make not make the big kw numbers as the ls3 however they make plenty of torque. Take into consideration how much time you would spend in top end... For those saying 383 fall ov in top end I will beg to differ one I just recently built makes power all the way to 7000rpm and holds it doesn't drop off. Still hydraulic roller.. So my answer is to do a bit of research consider your options and you would need heads cam and intake to go with it can't give it more capacity and not let it breathe.

Cheers guys......Thanks for info.
ls3 far stronger engine
I built a 383 stroker for my ls1 and it still has dead standard 241 cast heads, definetly not a waste of time if you are putting standard heads on... my 383 runs super low 11's over the quarter. If you can't afford heads do them later like I am planning too. I would definetly build a Ls1, the internals will be lots stronger and unless you are goin forced induction I wouldn't bother unless your chasing 600+hp.
Why is an Ls3 far stronger? Just say that because it seems everyone gets hung up on peak hp figures and better flowing heads all that is being considered is peak flow. Anyone actually consider air speed with the L92 heads? Each thei own but it isn't an apples for apples comparison and to be fair peak hp means 2 bits of fark all torque is what matters but as I said most people will jump on the LS3 wagon and basically discount how fun the 383 can be. Driven plenty on LS3 powered vehicles and a well setup 383 and I'd rather the 383 any day of the week loads more fun to drive and feels a lot stronger on the street but each to their own.
