Why Sell After Spending Big $$'s

While out at the mechanics I saw a Monaro 4 sale so stopped to have a look,600 RWKw's according to the sales guy,but no brake upgrade,Vortech supercharger and receipts for $25,000 worth of upgrades all for under $30,000 full price but rub marks visible on the rear rims from sqatting under power
Then I tell my mechanic about it and he tells me of a similar one 4 sale at another yard, similar power and price but immaculate
So my question is,why sell after spending so much money?,there are Forum members with similar rides,do you sell out of boredom and wanting a change or only if things are starting to go wrong

Can be a number of reasons, want a newer car, had an offer of something else at a good price, not a dreamer so not asking more than anyone is willing to pay, shit is about to break, too much shit was breaking so too expensive to keep... I've got a mate who sells his car everytime it needs new tyres as he cbf spending money on a car... where as i sell mine to get into something more interesting/different/newer. I've had thoughts of doing the cam and getting the ve back on the road again then selling it to get a vz r8 for something different

Sorry my mistake,I mis heard him,
I just looked at his website.
296.7 KW (400 HP) at the rear wheels, water spray injection, work done by Auto Tek.
I wasn't really listening to him he was rattling off about cam's and exhaust and I wasn't interested in buying.
Still doesn't explain why it is now for sale

Change of job requiring more travel which the owner can't afford to do in a big ol V8 thus selling for something more fuel efficient maybe

No I just about spat my coffee all over the screen laughing when you wrote 600rwkw with a Vortech, sorry

Hey some people just like messing around with their cars and get bored and then want to do something else, as
long as they can afford it and it is not hurting anyone else that is fine, but I have seen it a few times when it is
an expensive obsession and it can destroy lives.

Re: Why Sell After Spending Big $$'s

yeah dont know if i'd ever sell my E1 clubsport, 570rwhp, spent about 30k on mine so far

IF i was to ever sell it, I'd return it to its stock form and sell all the go fast bits to make more money......

I guess some ppl cant be bothered with that and just think fuk it, not worth the hassle of removing everything, so just sell it and get what they can for it.

If i ever sold it I'd g back to a VY/VZ clubby.... just love the look of them even though i have a VE....
    640rwhp of pure awesomeness

Re: Why Sell After Spending Big $$'s

You can take that $25,000 in mods and triple it to start getting towards what my car owes me in various guises and engines over the years, maybe even quadruple . Its reliable to drive daily (which I do) yet if someone offered me $15,000 I'd probably be throwing the keys and papers straight to them.
You can't sell a car with mods. They equal $0 in the second hand market. Unless you find a chump.

I've got too many cars, my new job is work from home 2 days a week, and public transit friendly the other days. Selling my Calais would make the most sense, but I'd be selling it at scrap value, so it's hard to hard to part with. Some might not have such an emotional attachment. Especially since its only $25,000 invested

Re: Why Sell After Spending Big $$'s

Financial reasons, plenty get loans and max credit cards to keep up with the jones on the forums etc etc

    People get bored.

    Priorities change.

New partner that doesn't approve and she is a firecracker in the sack.

You can go on and on and on..

So to answer your question lots and lots of reason.

I've had my VX for 9 years and I don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon. I could of paid half my house off though for the dollars I have "invested" into it. Still I probably got more enjoyment out of it than all the smart people who invested into the stock market pre GFC.

Maybe he's got sprogs now and needs rear doors to make it far easier to drag them in and out of baby seats. Maybe he lost his job and needs the money.
Could be a hundred different reasons.

I guess if I had thought about it a bit longer I would have come up with plenty of reasons,I was only thinking about the reliability side of things
Yes it is a vicous circle,I want to spend for more go but am nervous about buying a modded car for the usual reasons as in the posts above, but I also know I will buy more for less if I buy some-one else's unwanted "toy" and get rid of mine
If I mod mine it is a total loss of cash as I will never get it back if I sell but I know it's history since I bought it
