It's probably one option floating around the table but those who have been in the industry long enough know that things can change in an instant.

Even if a commitment was made to manufacture the commodore till 2020 it could still get shit canned. The GFC saw many makes and models disappear through forced rationalization, some which people thought would have been safe.

I saw an article a few months ago that talked about the commodore being built offshore to reduce costs, what Wonky heard may just mean it won't be produced here but the model will still be around. If successful in the US they could always build there to support local industry, similar to what happened with the Cruze in Oz.

I believe a variant of the Caprice was (is?) assembled in China. Also, one challenge with the Caprice PPV project is that many US law enforcement departments have policies regarding buying domestic models, thus US (or Canadian, like the Camaro and former Ford Crown Victoria) production has been suggested. I could handle if assembly was overseas, so long as the design and development remained Australian.

unfortunately I think it's inevitable. Especially with Cherry & Great wall and those pieces of shit coming onto the market we wont be able to compete.

itll happen pretty fast id say...and the future plans with the gov handouts would have been organized eitherway...unless they had allready made the decission to cut commie before that. Otherwise theyd have no option if they needed one. I for one seriously cant see an export program working again. It just sounds stipid bisuines...but who knows...if they more production to usa after theey get it up and running then maybe thats what they want. They get a new model for usa...we get minus a model.

I hope its not true, but as it stands that would mean Holden would no longer be able to run in the V8 Supercar series, you need to have a Production V8 to enter... Unless as someone said they just start releasing them as Chev over here too and import them from the USA

Since the race cars share little with the production vehicle, i don't think it'll be affected.

This type of talk in the mainstream media, general public doesnt help the brand. I remember all too well all the Closing talk of Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi tried to keep the brand and production plant running in SA but no one wanted to support it for fears of being left with a new car that cant be servced. Its just one big death spiral
    I'm not a hoon, I'm just competitive

I sincerely pray he's wrong, but if not remember you heard it here first!
Mate, I know you're not a spreader of "rubbish", but I simply do not believe that to be true.
18 months?....that is not even the end of 2013!!.......I say someone's "got their hand on it"....big time.
I'm not saying that Commodore will go on forever.....but it'll definitely go on for longer than your man is saying......IMHO, of course.
    Cheers, Pickles.

    Re: Terrible News If True

Holden/HSV have spent considerable coin on the VF wonks. Commondoor will be around till 2016 at least. After 2018 is when it gets interesting.

I am looking forward to the lsa GTS with all the fruit (and will be a fruit salad).

YES, I have also heard things from high level, very reputable sources on this subject.
NO, I am not prepared to say everything I have been told.
What I AM prepared to say is that my information does NOT match Wonky's source.
