Hey guys. I have a VE V8 with the auto and I've been looking through this thread trying to find the rubber 'bung' where the top up hole is on this gearbox. I'll be buggered if I can find it. I presume you access it from underneath the car rather than down through the bonnet? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Drivers side, lie on the ground, reach in and up the side of the gear box and the bung is located mid way up. Pull top up and the whole bung can be removed. I have pics on a transcooler thread I did a while back if you search.

On another note longest trans pan upgrade in history lads! Looking forward to hearing results once it all comes together!

Keen to hear if anyone who has actually fitted the deeper pan has had their flaring issues cured?
Flaring on mine is so bad now that I am wondering if it is even worth trying before a proper rebuild.

I've had a deeper pan fitted. Although it was one I had fabricated. Works a treat. Had 6 runs at Willowbank and it works very well.

This thread seems to have stalled for various reasons...but has anyone fitted up a caddy pan and filter as a direct replacement yet? If so, is it big improvement over the stock setup with flaring issues cured?

I have a caddy pan coming in the next two weeks so will know for sure if you can wait that long. Pace Performance sell them as a kit for the G8 so I would be very surprised if they don't fit but whether it fixes the flaring remains to be seen.

When the pan comes off, is there any way of telling if the clutches are rooted just by looking at them? Or does the whole tranny have to come out and/or apart to see?
I have a horrible feeling that the damage to my tranny may already be done.

I'm not sure if you can assess the condition of the clutch packs by removing the pan. I do know that because the gearbox had a learn function, it will make adjustments that can mask an emeging problem. Mine held together pretty well until I was getting massive slipping. I knew it was dead then. So since the rebuild, I've had the learn function turned off.

Cool mate, looking forward to your feedback on the caddy pan setup once fitted. I've heard it's light years better than the stock pan...time will tell, keep us posted mate

can allso get them from here for more $$
but my not be what you want as they use a STOCK filter that sits up on stands so the filter is NOT going to sit lower in the pan

Using stock filter seems to defeat part of the reason for going the way gaz05 did with his, plus those pans are a hell of a lot more expensive.

Caddy deep pan and big mouth filter installed, have to say only difference it has made was reduce the running temp of the tranny about 15 to 20 degrees. Welded in the baffle to stop the big wave action also

Interesting thanks. How did you work out how/where to do the baffle? Reducing the trans temps must be good for it - how do you measure those?

Go into the engineering mode on the dash Wonks and you can monitor tranny temps

I will have to pull my finger out and get my pan done. Been sitting in the shed for nearly 6 months

Having not heard from gaz for months I PMd someone who knows him and was told he's having some issues not related to this stuff plus the guy who apparently does a lot of the work for him had a heart attack and hasn't been able to work. I hope everything falls into place soon as between that and my E3 dash which has gone nowhere for months I'm finding it bloody frustrating.........
