    slicks turning on rims

hi thought why not and put it out there!!!! has anyone else marked there rims and tyres to see how much tyre is turning on rim !!!ran my car on wed night 4 passes left tyre turned 105mm right turned 65mm!!! from research screwing tyres to rims seemed needed if tyre is turning more than an inch per pass!! screwing seems easy enough!!!also read there is a glue option also!!! obviously this turning is saving the driveline but would have to be costing me a better 60ft time!!! tyres are et drag 28x9 on 15x8 rim starting with dead cold 16psi chasing a warm 14psi which is the pressure used to pb 60ft last year in warmer weather better track!! all 60ft for the night 1.55 to 1.57 !!! anyone experienced this before!!!! thoughts!!!! cheers

I experinced the same deal with full on slicks..hence one of the reasons for the return to Drag Radails...best 60 ft on full slicks was 1.5 high..normal pass now on DR's at exactly 22psi is 1.4 very low..with minimal tyre slip..Best has gone 1.3 high

Might be a good idea to start bead locking your slicks, if you are confident enough give it a go otherwise you can buy wheels pre drilled for purpose.

I think he meant, how do you know the rim isn't spinning x number of times and happened to stop 65mm past the chalk line. I doubt it would though.

To be honest i don't think it would make any measurable difference in your times and the tyre isn't coming off. I wouldn't be overly worried about it.

    Re: slicks turning on rims

thats why i just put it out there i,m not overly worried about the turning !!!! from research nobody really gave an idea of gains by screwing them !!!! hundreds or thousands of a second??? i,m still managing to run looking at old slips 9.84 with a 1.597 60 ft and 9.91 with a 1.607 60 ft so i,m still going alright after the 60ft!!!!cheers

Mine used to do a full lap after a few meetings, its nothing to worry about. On these cars its not going to make any difference.

Probably not something to worry bout with the littles tyres, but the bigger ones on a drag car they screw or bead lock them for a reason. There is the possibility of it coming off the rim

    Re: slicks turning on rims

Are they the soft wall version or the stiffer wall? ET Drag are available in both but one has a slightly stiffer sidewall. Whats the part number?

    Re: slicks turning on rims

thanks saj thats the info i was after for my sort of setup the difference would be marginal and if it does prevent killing diff gears or the tru trac i,ll leave it!!! from my research jezza 28x 9s only have the one mt3054 L8 compound good for general use!!! would be interesting if anyone is seeing similar in a tallish type et street drag radial evon tho there sidewall is a little stiffer!!! cheers

    Re: slicks turning on rims

Maybe it's better the tyre turns on the rim a little bit rather that twisting the sheeite out of your drive shafts

    Re: slicks turning on rims

I'm running a 28 x 10.5 ET Drag with a slightly stiffer sidewall. Haven't seen any turning on 9.5psi and 1.45 sixty foots. Will see what happens next time I'm out there with the trans brake.
