It's all a bit sad really, It a no brainer that Mazda 3, Corolla and I30's etc sell well, given at the lower end they are half the dollars of a Commodore to buy and probably to run taking into account depreciation and interest on the higher purchase price. In saying that all things considered Commodore probably does reasonable numbers, hopefully the economics of building them are still viable for some time to come. Don't forget though with Falcon, Territory numbers should be considered also.
Its over....when Aussie tradies prefer Great Wall to Commodore ute....its over.
And we only have our tightarse selves to blame wanting to buy only the cheapest above anything else. Its the nature of the beast.
Yeah I remember a few years ago when tradies/couriers drove hi-ace, express, courier vans. Then Kia sent a boat our way and the Pregio plague hit our roads. I can safely say a good percentage of us have all been stuck behind one of these slow smog shows in a state of anger.
The fact tradies want cheaper is spending 55k on a new ute, hilux etc when after 12 months is going to be beaten up a little, scratches and full of concrete dust is just not good business sense.

Great walls outselling Holden utes.![]()
That is sad!![]()
When you can buy a Great Wall ute for less than $25K I'n not surprised they are selling well, give it time and they will start chewing into Hilux sales. Sure I wouldn't want to drive a GW on the highway but if I was just driving around building sites in town I would definitely buy one. Why the hell would you fork out $40K+ on a Hilux? Just buy a GW and drive it into the ground in five years when the warranty expires.
Cheers, Matthew
I spent most of my money on unreliable cars and less reliable women, the rest I wasted.

[COLOR="#FFFFFF"]It'z really sad to see more people eating at SUSHI TRAIN than THE STEAK HOUSE......I would rather drive a ford than a great walll...There i said it...Don't regret it...If you want to save a few thousand...BUY SECOND HAND.....Otherwise enjoy yr sushi i hope it burns yr throat!... /COLOR]
Chinese arent big fans of Sushi....in fact they hate it if its the Great Wall folks you are referring to.
As far as buying a Japanese car over an Australian car, thats a no-brainer. The Japanese car costs about the same, uses half the fuel, lasts twice as long (built better) and has masses more resale value. So maybe replace the 'Steak' with 'Chump Chops' and you are getting warm![]()

It's fine to bag out the Chinese cars and yeah the quality isn't that great, but for the price you cant complain. However, just remember Japan was in the same boat as China at one stage. No one wanted their cheap crap, now look at them.
China will get to that stage in much shorter time.
Not quite......not really
The Japanese took existing designs such as the putrid old A-Series Morry engine, fixed all the pommy crap problems in it, made it 500% more reliable and efficient before releasing it in 'classics' such as the Datto 1200 and 120Y. Even the Datto 1600, 180B had enough innovation in it back in the 1970s that Holden 'used' the same rear end design on their 'all new' IRS system in 1993 or so nearly quarter of a century later and carried it through until VE.
People didnt like the Japs because they bombed Darwin and all that caper. Their cars were 100 times better than anything from here even the fledgling efforts in the 60s. Dont confuse this with the Chinese that are re-heating 1990s Japanes drivelines and dressing them in Weeties boxes to trick Bogan tradies![]()
Give China 5 years and they will be building cars that will be superior to our local cars, just look at the progress over the past 5 years.
Well, I have done my bit, I purchased a new FG GT 335 last year and a new SSV ute under my business in the same year....not much more I can do other than brag how good both cars are to the people who buy non Australian and hope to persuade them...
