I don't miss paying Qld rego fees one bit. Paid 12mth before I moved to melb and was $1061, paid 12mth in melb $620 Best to check all the 3rd party fees as its the only way you can save a couple of bucks.

Qld is screwed and the government shafting the residents to claim a few dollars back to fix monumental **** ups (north/south bypass tunnel, airport link) is just wrong.

Re: Unfair high costs for Ute owners in QLD

    here you go

Mr Newman has asked me to thank you for your correspondence from the 10th March.
I would like to acknowledge your comments and appreciate that you have taken the time to raise this issue with us.
Every time Queenslanders fill up their cars, turn on the tap, flick on the lights, buy a new home, pay their car registration, or drive on a toll road they are paying more as a direct result of the economic mismanagement of the Bligh Labor Government.
According to the RACQ, Queensland is the most expensive state to own and operate a motor vehicle. Since 2008, registering a six cylinder car has ballooned by $107.55 to $443.45, and drivers' licences fees will double from $73.70 to $152.50 to cover the cost of yet another Labor bungle – the introduction of the "smart card" licence system.
Added to this, immediately after the last election Premier Bligh broke her promise to not introduce the 9.2 cent a litre fuel tax on Queensland motorists.
The LNP understands Queenslanders are struggling with the cost of living and will act to cut costs.
Over the past few years, Labor have hiked the cost of registration by 30%.
The LNP is planning to freeze family car rego for vehicles up to (and including) 8 cylinders and under 4 tonnes.
If your vehicle is less than 4 tonnes and not registered as a commercial vehicle you will save money and benefit from the LNP’s announcement.
With the state government $85 billon in debt, unfortunately, we cannot afford to freeze motor vehicle registration for all vehicles. If your ute is over 4 tonnes then rego will simply increase with inflation, which is around 2.5-3%.
We can not have a change in Queensland without a change of Government. Only a strong, united LNP team can get Queensland back on track.
Thank you again for taking the time to raise this issue with us, I appreciate you comments on this particular issue.

    Kind regards,

    Campbell Newman Team.

You think that's bad? My VX SS sedan is registered as a panelvan (light commercial) due to the inability of Qld Transport to register same as a sedan with only 2 seats. Rear seat, inner door handles and all seatbelt mountings removed due to roll-cage.

well to be fair, historically the ute was a work type vehicle. In Adelaide there is a law that still exists that makes it illegal to wear pink pants in public on Sundays. never heard of it being inforced.

I reckon in this case it's about time the utes got together and told the gov to fk right off with that.
Swear the economy and the country are up sh t creek. seems to be more fees, charges, taxes, price rises, and yet I still get the same 2% bullshit payrise every year. I'm actually getting paid less technically than I was 4 years ago if you factor in CPI.

In SA you used to be able to buy your rego for 3,6,9 or 12 months. Recently they changed that to 3 or 12 months only. What crap. Some people cant afford 12 months rego in one hit
and 3 months is way too short + they slug you more for buying 3 month rego periods... Plus they dont even give you a friggin rego sticker either anymore. Friggin morons.

I would of thought it would be 6/12 but hey they went with 3/12 some stupid reason.

Rego stickers are going to be all gone soon, WA & SA already, QLD next with NSW considering it. Once the remaining governments see they can make a million by cutting them out it will happen.

Get rid of the ugly stickers however, how does anyone know what's running around on expired rego by looking at the car?

They use a digitizer (camera) on cop cars or a standalone camera (like a speed camera) to see if you're expired, it'll be linked to the registration database - I think I saw one of those cameras yesterday here in Adelaide, it was parked in front of a Holden Colorado and the rest of speed cameras here are inside Camarys.

They tried a similar technology when I was living in Perth, they had a camera scanning number plates and verifying them against police records - they found a few people who had outstanding issues, I believe this has been tried in other states too,.

Interesting. Just stops the police doing a random eye check so I guess people will expect to get away with it. I'm all for ditching the stickers though. Too big (the size they are for obvious reasons) and the colours (again for reasons) can clash with the duco . well in Qld anyways.
