Lightbulb Another Check Powertrain Light Thread.

Ive searched through alot of threads about it but i have a few questions. My powertrain light came up on my VX Calais LS1 V8 the other day
so i came on here and researched alot of the information.I came to the conclusion it was the O2 sensors because my fuel consumption was rising
a little bit.I changed them to new Bosch ones but the light is still on.My question is if it was that, would the light go out or do i have to get it cleared?
The car drives great and doesnt seem to have any problems but i dont want to drive it with the check powertrain light on still.I might just put a new oil switch
and PCV valve as well. But would like to see exactly what it is before i spend anymore money.
How much would it cost to get it cleared from a Holden dealer? The car also has a mafless tune and cold air intake which was done about a 1yr ago
if that makes any difference.Any help would be great.
    Cheers
    Chris

Disconnect the negative on the battery terminal for a minute or so, reconnect and it should be cleared. This is what I did with mine. In saying that about 20 mins of driving later the light came up again, so I think I might have changed the wrong O2 sensor.

Sorry but throwing parts at a check engine light is absolutely moronic. Get it in, get it checked and go from there. It could be any number of things. Should be somewhere between $60-$100 depending on dealer to check/clear codes/check connections/road-test/check codes again to ensure none have relogged.

You can even grab a dongle and use a phone application to check it yourself, if you have an andriod or iphone all you need is a OBD-II dongle, can grab them on ebay cheap, even though they are cheap they still work and read/clear error codes fine.

Hi we're r u located? 90% mechanics / tuners can scan it doesn't have to go to a dealer be a lot cheaper just replacing parts which need the dtc reset afterwards any ways

Please let us know how you get on. My 'check eng' lite intermittently comes on but will clear on restarting. My VT had the o2 sensors replaced under warranty & on its 2nd oil pressure sensor

    No worries Chris.
I am not blowing wind up our own arse, but we haven't charge to scan ecu's for years now. Nor do we charge our customers for pre purchase checks. (well maybe a slab of C/D for the fridge)

Ok.Thanks to Chev for the offer but it wasnt needed.I will be down there soon though, when my project track car
needs to be tuned I ended up getting the fault scanned by the mechanic who services our work cars.So it cost me
nothing. And what do you know? It ended up being the oil pressure sensor switch. So all i have to do now is get a
new one and fit it.I have read through some threads saying its pretty easy to do and read some others where they said
it was a pain in the ass.I'll guess i'll find out soon enough. Thanks for everyones help.
    Cheers

I watched Chev do mine. Probably a pain in the ass if you don't know where you are looking because it is right down the back of the engine. For good 'ol Chev though it was a 2 minute job and i was back on the road.

    Talking Update

Finally got it all sorted and im a happy man again I bought a new oil pressure switch for $60 and read some threads
regarding fitting it up.Some said it was hard and some said it was easy. The first thing i did was have a look at the back of the engine
to see where it was.It was found easily enough with the aid of a torch. The next thing i did was go and buy a deep socket from SCA for $7.
I got home disconnected the wire from the sensor and then took it out with the socket.Took a whole 2 minutes to do.Put the new one in
and then connected the wires again. This took me about 5 min because there wasnt much room to fit the wires back on.And it was a bit
fiddly.Started the car up and what do you know the Check Engine Light was gone
Out of curiosity i asked a mechanic across the road from work how much would it cost to change it? His answer was $200
He told me they are really hard to get to and the intake manifold might have to come off
So if it ever happens to anyone else its a pretty simple job to do.Thanks for everyones help.
    Cheers
    Chris
