Main thing that's crap is no street view. The maps are tomtom built and vector based. Satellite has a long way to go though. Google will be releasing a 3rd party maps app. May even offer turn by turn now too

    The New iPhone

Well having had a few days to get used to the 5, I've gotta say it's mostly good but not without faults.

On the plus side is the speed in general and the LTE data speed in particular. It is lightning fast and anyone looking for a new phone shouldn't even consider anything that is limited to only 3G. The real world difference between 3G and LTE is almost comical.

The new connector is brilliant.... Why didn't Apple go with microUSB..... Because they came up with something better.... I've got heaps of devices that use mini or micro USB and this new connector trumps them in both sturdiness and not needing to insert one way.

The lightness of the phone is noticeable. It's funny to pickup a 4S now because it feels like a solid stainless billet. I didn't find the old one heavy so care factor isn't huge.

Bigger screen.... Meh! Better image but 4" vs 3.5" who cares!!! I do most graphics intense stuff on my iPad so I don't really care about screen size on the phone.

Last but not least.... Battery life is better. Not drastically but at a guess I'd say 10% over my old 4S

    Now to the bad:

I didn't think the old phone was too thick and I find the thinness of the 5 a bit too thin. I've got a plastic case on it and because the thing is so damn thin I find more difficult to push the buttons hidden in the holes in the case.

The proximity sensor takes longer to de-activate after you remove it from your face which is a bit annoying.

The MAPS..... Oh dear! This will give the Android people something to cling to for the next twelve months. In short they are crap. I always thought maps were crap and outdated but the new mapping app in ios6 is woeful..... Fortunately Apple has about $400 Billion in the Online Saver Account (+ another $1 Billion care of Samsung) so I'm confident they'll sort things out sooner rather than later. In the meantime I hope Google brings out a mapping App soon..... Coz if they do they'll get a LOT of downloads.....

    The New iPhone

Finally got my iPhone 5 today, pretty happy so far, really like the new headphones, the only thing I don't like at the moment (besides maps) is the apps that haven't updated to the larger screen format, but I can handle that, because they will all update soon enough, haven't had a chance to try out LTE yet, but can't wait to see the speed difference

I had to use maps today for the first time as a stand alone GPS and I'm not sure why people are bagging it so much? I only used Google maps a few times as a GPS and yes it's obviously a better and more polished app as its had time to become so good but I wouldn't say that the new Maps are terrible. It has multiple routes, vectored graphics and the traffic function seems to work fine. Plus it shows in meters and kilometers exactly how far the next turn is. Next month they'll be hopefully introducing voice turn by turn which Google hasn't got yet to the best of my knowledge. Should get even better with time.

My Galaxy Nexus has Voice Turn by Turn out of the box and it's been great so far. It doesn't have Cameras or Speed Limits at the moment though.

I've had the tomtom app since my iPhone 3. It's better than anything built in by both apple or anyone else and so it should be as a full fledged navigator. For the $80 it was back when I got it (always been free updates), I can't really complain about the cost hence the native apple maps or maps previously doesn't really do anything for me. Tomtom does voice, speed limits, cameras etc the same as it does on a full feature navigator.

Yeah I also had it when I had my iPhone, was a great app!

Have you put in back on your IP5 and has it been updated for the increased screen Real Estate?

    Re: The New iPhone

How many of you guys use your iPhone as a iPod in the car? Someone just said the iPhone5 doesn't have iPod out so it wont connect. I obviously don't have an iPhone but I do have an iPod which only comes out of the car when I update the sync. Is it just a matter of waiting for an update to get connectivity? I assume if they can do it then the rest of the apple line up will go to the same connector

    Yep I do. Works fine.

Those people are guys with cars that don't have digital comms. The old analog outputs are now gone.

    Straight from Apple:
This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Support for analogue audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging. Video output not supported.

(Ie: You won't be able to connect using the Lightning Cable, but if you use the old cable with a Lightning Adapter you're fine)

So music works but external control doesn't? There's a lot of confusing reports on the internet about it.
