Yes, there are good Police and there are some not so good ones. While many users want to vent their frustrations about some negative experiences in this thread, talking about running down or shooting Police officers such as the posts I've now removed will not be tolerated at any time on this forum.

I thought that towbars were illegal when you weren't towing things, that's why you have to have a removable neck now a days. Not that anyone pays attention to it or gets fined for it that i know of?

The servo out near Fyshwick just near the TAFE, was a really good meet point a few years ago for muscle cars. There were always VERY nice cars out there

    An interesting story.

So the cop didn’t care if a highly modified and illegal vehicle was being driven on a public carriageway.

I’m not rubbishing the integrity of the car, nor am I anti-modifying.
I’ve found if you are reasonable so are the Police but I’ve never heard of one letting such a blatant violation go unaddressed in this day and age even if it is just up the road.
20 years ago maybe but today with litigation an easy avenue to travel most would force the vehicle to be placed on a trailer or such.

Even with all due care, who is responsible if something goes wrong (a wheel may fall off) and an innocent member of the public is injured or worse? Is it the cop who allowed an obviously illegal vehicle to driven on a public street or the owner/driver?

I’d love to hear what a few of the Police Officers who are members here have to say on the matter.

When do they draw the line with mods before it is too in your face to let it go as in this story?

Anyone get caught up in Operatn Kilowatt??

I know a few coppers who are more than happy to go over any vehicle depending on who is driving it....

Sounds to me like the driver of said car wasn't being a d!ckhead and gave a reasonable explanation, hence passed the attitude test. Rather than do what many (previously booked) people like to claim about meeting the quota with "easy" tickets, he gave them the opportunity to behave. Clearly a bit of an enthusiast.
Sounds like one of those "can't win" stories. Book him and the police are a pack of kents- don't book him and they're doing wrong by the community. It's a tough job they have sometimes.
To me, they got off with a warning.

I know what u r saying mate. I suppose there is a difference to an average ricer with cut springs and a cannon exhaust ripping up the road... Maybe we should of been booked... But with all due care? The car if anything had more safety features(better brakes, better Tyres, roll cage, fire sys). We don't need a rego check to tell us our Tyres are bald or our brakes are worn or we are leaking oil. I'll cop fines all day if my car is unsafe which is warranted what I won't cop is crap fines(we all know what they are). We just had an event chromefest on the coast here(I have a pic thread) most of these cars were driven with not a single fine handed out it was a great day. Thankyou to the local police for allowing us all to have a great day....

funny, do they know what they are looking at? I know some are enthusiasts like us, but like anything else others have no freakin idea,
example 1) pulled over in modded car sting in Penrith about 14-15 years ago, was in my mates Twin Cam Rolla' complete with 4AGZE (supercharged/intercooled 1.6L) We were arguing that the car was standard, lol, (wasnt engineered yet) and Officer pointed at the top mount intercooler, "whats that?" he said.... "Air Con" we stated in unision, and off we went....

example 2) another time I had an argument over my Air Filter, Officer "Oiled Air Filters are illegal" me: I dont oil it so as not to be an illegal mod....let off, most of the time its a joke until you get the RTA/EPA/Police together than its just a massive competition whom can screw someone over the most...

I had my fair share of "shit' from the boys and gals in blue in my younger years, a friend of my family was a local officer and told me they had my plate number up as a "pull over" car whenever seen after dark...and that they did! As soon as the sun went down, there would be red and blue lights flashing behind me for a random breath test...

Nothing was stupidly modified just guessing that my time in the spotlight came from members of the public dobbing on my driving, or the Police seeing me do something and not quite being able to get me in time, these days though I haven't had a problem, 1) my car isnt driving around deserted streets @ 3am in the morning with another 6 cars in tow, 2) i dont attract attention by being a dick, some pretty simple rules to live by and your life will be much easier!!!

having said that, I was once let off for doing doughnuts in the middle of an intersection during a school lunch break...the elderly officer thought the punishment that most suited my crime would be to contact the registered owner ofsaid vehicle and inform him what I had been doing...sly old copper, lol, and I wonder why they seemed like they were after "me"...rofl

95% of the time its an attitude adjustment from the boys in blue, 99% of those incidents are probably deserved!
