    Re: CTEK Battery Chargers

I've got the CTEK 0.8Amp version I mainly use it for my bike, charged a flat battery overnight. But i've also used on my SS when it been laided up for a while. I found it works fine as a trickel maintance charger for a car battery, but I wouldnt use it to charge a flat car battery unless you want to wait a week to charge it!

    Re: CTEK Battery Chargers

Had one of these myself for a couple of years now, cycles the battery to stop it sulphating, best charger.

Got the shits the other day and bought a Lithium Battery for the Advantra,

so much smaller it fits in the battery box sideways.

Has 1750 Crank rating and spins the engine at close to double crank speed.

Had a stupid retail price of $1400

They reckon 10 minutes to fully charge and holds full charge for a year no problem (without top up)

    Cheers

Steve which lithium battery did you get. I was researching them a couple of months ago but couldn't find anything direct plug and play

    SSB PowerSport Lithium

No special chargers, runs 14.5 volts

This battery is plug and play

They are a big fire hazard (check YouTube, starting a fire with a AAA lithium battery, goes like Magnesium when exposed to air)

    Cheers

    Re: CTEK Battery Chargers

    Hi Guys

    A little help
I recently purchsed a Ctek MXS 5.0 charger and conected it to my VT SS to try and charge the battery. Its been sitting in the shed dead foir about a month, batteriy is about 8 months old. The charger won't even acknowledge it is connected to the battery, after 2 minutes it just goes into power saver mode which it's designed to do if you don't connet the charger to a battery. Any ideas why this might be?

I did try to connect the charger to my wifes Cruze which has a charged battery and worked immediately. Are these chargers designed to charge a dead battery?

    thank you in advance

    George

    Re: CTEK Battery Chargers

I'm no expert but whilst these will help recover a flat battery I'd assume the results you're having would indicate the battery is not just flat but farked. Given it's only 8 months old I'd be taking it back for a new one.

get a multimeter and check the voltage of the battery, usually if the voltage is too low the charger wont recognise the battery.
simple fix is if you have a spare battery where the voltage is fine you can use some jumper leads to connect the two batteries, then after an hour or two just diconnect the jump battery.

As has been mentioned the battery needs to have at least 6 volts to reconise the battery. The cheat to get around this is to either jump start the car and connect whilst running and then turn off, the charger will then reconise or connect to another battery until it reconises it.

What happens if you manually put it into recondition mode?

    CTEK Battery Chargers

what happens if you stick it on the supply setting where it's not the smart charger just a normally battery charger until it gets enough charge and then swap it back?
or as others have said trick it into thinking the battery isn't flat to bring it back to life

The Ctek MXS 5.0 doesn't have that option. I would see if you can start it in recond mode, failing that I would get an old manual charger and give it a run on that for a few hours first, then swap it over. If that's not an option, even jumper cable the battery from a good battery until the charger gets to stage 3, then drop the jumper leads. I would definetly have it in recond mode.

if it's that flat , and you only have a mxs 5.0 charger , put it in motorcycle mode

    Re: CTEK Battery Chargers

    Thanks guys
Job done, I removed the battery from the car, gave it a small shake to make sure there was water in it, reconnected the charger and it began the recond process. I have no idea why this is. I did charge the Cruze for a couple of hours before I tried again, maybe there was enough charge left in the ctek to fire up the dead battery. I've left it on overnight and it's currently at stage 4.
    Go Figure
For future charges if it ever gets that flat again, i'll piggy back it of another battery till it gets to stage 3. Now that i have the Ctek hopefully i'll never need to.
