Weight reduction is a similar, in fact superior benefit compared to power increases.

That would be my guess as well, current trends are in favour of fuel economy, chasing extra power isn't likely, at least for main stream models. I recall reading sometime ago that the bonnet would be made from aluminium for obvious weight saving, contributing to fuel savings.

They sure have kept secrets secure this time around - only days away from release and no one knows any details for sure.
Holden boss said publicly last year that some panels would be thinner metal to save weight ... so maybe not aluminium .

All i can say is, expect your insurance premiums to go up on the Commodore if they use as much aluminium as they say they are going to.

They have also cut down weld width as well, was also a technique used in the Volt to keep weight down.

If you can wait even longer the VF's will settle back to normal pricing as I would expect soon after release, while there is VE stock around the VF will be significantly higher price (nearer RRP), as the VE stocks run down, the VF pricing will come back to normal pricing more say like late last year.
If the VF carries a price premium over VE they won't sell any. They have to be cheaper.

I was thinking the same thing . In this day and age with the Internet and basically everyone having a camera with them, they have done amazingly well to keep most info secret.

Here's hoping for at least 70kg weight saving , much better quality interior with improved quality and reliability all around at similar prices that the VE has been selling for in the last 2 or 3 years .(eg: Manual SV6 for around $35k drive away)

Please send link to article with Volt as all I can find is GM new welding technique for aluminum which they are using in "hood of its Cadillac CTS-V and tailgates for its Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon hybrids, GM says the process will be used ‘more extensively’ from 2013."

I can't remember exactly where is saw it whether it be a magazine or the web, but i'm sure it was a technique they pulled from either the Cruze of the Volt! They found they could nearly cut the seam welds in half and still maintain all the structural strength and rigidity that they needed.

    Interesting read Here

Looks like we may get the LT1 after all, it's a strange figure to just pull from no where 310Kw!

No lt1, not even for HSV (not yet and for at least 12 months).

Not too keen on modding while car is under warranty.

I know that everybody is saying this, but if the VF SS gets the 6.2 LS3 then HSV loses one of its advantages over the SS.

If my memory serves me correctly, HSV was one of the first cars with an LS3 so why can't they do it again and release it with the LT1.

Lets hope HSV pull a surprise .
