Are these tyres ok? Inside lip damage from tyre removal machine.

As the title asks, are these throwaways now? The part that seals against the wheel looks perfectly fine...

They're Bridgestone re050As with 70% tread so I'll be very upset if they're not ok.

I'd lean towards a no, seem to have damaged the ply. Who removed them? If a business, look for some compensation.

( I am far from qualified to really comment, but if they were mine I would be very dubious)

Local beaurepaires took them off. I may be calling up on Monday to see how they can fix this if that's the case.

The bit that seals against the rim looks perfectly fine? Looks like the bead has been damaged in more than one photo. I'd be worried about putting those back on anything

I had one of my tyres damaged like that when i had them removed so the wheels could be powder coated. Ripped a chunk out aprox the size of the second tyre you have here. Put it back on the rear, no issues so far.

Yeah, to me they look mangled. I'm about to put them on freshy painted genuine GTS wheels and don't want to unless I can get 100% certainty they will be ok to fit.

I have a mate who's also fitted one like this and said it held up fine until the end of it's life (he has gone through millions of tyres over the past few years with his antics)... I showed him the damage and he told me "as long as the part of the tyre that touches the wheel is ok, they will be fine".

I've posted it on here to get more opinions... I'm happy for them to buy me another set of second hand bridgestones for the front rims...

Further research, the Bridgestone website states under the 'repair or replace' subheading
"some tyres are damaged so badly that they must be discarded. Tyres that should never be repaired include those with tread or casing separation; fabric chafer damage which would reduce the tubeless air seal; broken, kinked or exposed bead wires; flex breaks; presence of an internal liquid sealant with any penetration damage through the inner liner; tread depth below 1.6mm; cracks which extend into the tyre fabric; open liner splices which show exposed cords; liner and first ply showing evidence of having been run flat, under inflated or overloaded.
It is recommended that repairs should be undertaken only by qualified tyre technicians, because sometimes tyres with apparently minor external damage have actually sustained unseen but serious internal damage".
    http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/...are/facts.aspx

The damage can also quite clearly be categorised as bead damage "when carelessly mounted or dismounted".

    Great.

Mind you, I just bought these wheels for the sole reason that they had Bridgestone RE050As with 70%+ tread on them... Looks like I'll be having a nice chat with the shop on Monday. If they do not wish to comply, I will be taking it to their Head Quarters. There is no way I am forking out money for tyres that I did not break.

There is no way those tyres should be put back on a rim, they're totally ****ed. If they caused that damage they are obligated to replace them. Or take them to fair trading, it will be your word against theirs but if you chuck enough of a stink and hassle them you should be right.

Hmm I'm of the opinion that the face touching the rim is ok then the tyre will be ok. However the confidence I would have on the tyre wouldn't be there and that last place you want the tyre to let go is around a bend @ 100km

not clear in photos, but maybe the damage looks 'old'... might be why they were cheap.

no amount of 'reasoning' could make those tyres safe for you or the other road users
