    Completely understand on all counts.

The little AMG will have plenty of drama thanks to its steroidal boost levels and will have a great soundtrack. GTS will get that and definitely road presence. The good thing about the new VF and HSV is that it has become more sophisticated from a fit and finish and option perspective. All the good stuff and then some in a local package.

If the VF and gen f are not successful it won't be because Holden/HSV didn't try. They have thrown everything at this upgrade. It really is up to the consumer now.

    Agreed.

If these cars are up to the levels predicted, we all need to be giving support to Holden and HSV to ensure a continuation of local V8s.

If the VF fails to sell after the initial new model flutter, I feel it will be the end of locally manufactured big cars.

Wifey want an A45.....we're looking at others currently...there's a new AWD S3 Audi coming out with 221KW, & also a new Golf (drove the current Golf R....OK but not brilliant).
The A45 will be a sensation, no doubt about that, but to compare it with the new GTS......well, I guess ya can "compare" anything, but I reckon these two cars are totally different in size, handling,...everything.....& You've been on here (Forum) for a long time, so I know that you know the issues. Just that I think a comparison between two very different cars is difficult.
I reckon a long drive in both is the go.....but, I reckon, with all things considered, the GTS will come out in front...just more practical...IMHO...and there's nothing like a big grunty V8 is there?
We (wifey & I) both LOVE the AMG product....but this new GTS is going to be something special...it surely will grab some AMG sales.....I reckon that once you drive the GTS, you'll be asking "Where do I sign"?
    Cheers, Pickles.

if you can TRULY afford a AMG V8 then you would have no inclination to buy the GTS regardless of price.... in a A45 comparo I can see why someone would buy the GTS, I would buy the A45...

however... perhaps given this may well be the last of the aussie rear drive HSV's, that might be enough on its own to buy one?

I meant in terms of sales etc, the GT is simply not relevant any more. How many E3 HSV's do you see getting around compared to FG FPVs?

I know what you mean in terms of the symbiotic relationship between the two brands, but it is appearing to me that barring a sudden upswing in FPV sales, that the Gen F is the last great hope for locally made performance sedans.

Well, I don't know whether we could "afford" it, or not!!??....but we did buy a C63 last year...so did a lot of others....AMG sold more C63s than HSV sold Clubsports.
However, had this GTS been available....I think I'd have seriously considered it.....who knows.....but 430KW is very "enticing"...and I reckon that's what HSV will be hoping......that with that sort of grunt, they may grab a few of the "Euru", AMG, Audi, BMW buyers?.....we'll see.
    Cheers, Pickles.

The HSV vs Euro debate has been around a long time, from my memory the likes of Wheels comparos with VN SV's era and probably each successive model. The Euros always having won out. Nothing changes really, ultimately the likes of C63 will ultimately win out. At the end of the day HSV is based on a $35K Commodore underpinnings. In saying this 430 Kw is seriously awesome. As the goal posts keep moving you wonder where it will peak, there is a general trend now to smaller capacity motors but we are talking performance cars. Given we are presumably within 4 years of no more Commodore V8's I think VF GTS just has to be something special as the years roll by.

If i drop 100k on a car it wouldn't be a Holden, so much better out there, id rather pick up someones lost 50-60k on a euro after 2 years than get a new GTS ever an R35.

A valid point, well sort of. The maintenance cost of these exotics is massive, like re lining the plasma coating on the bores on the gtr

    Re: Supercharged HSV?

2year old gtrs are well out of this price range. Work mate paid deposit today on a 4 year old one...... 130k price tag still.

One thing you can't do is throw the family in a gtr and go on holidays but a gts will fit the bill well. It's not all about having the ultimate machine, its finding something you want and can afford that will service your needs.

I made initial enquiries today on a gts, waiting on some figures to come through and if all is good, I may have a deposit down very soon. Down side is the 6 pot brakes are a $3700 option, not standard wtf?

Would like to see the gts competitively priced with the gt-p as its 15-20k cheaper with similar performance

No big brakes standard seems odd to be honest. I would hope the dealer got that one wrong.

You do realise your Ford V8 run this "exotic" plasma coating too

i think every time you sit in the C63, start it, you know you made the only decision...

I think your dealer may have been quoting on current GTS or at least using that spec sheet.

Yeah probably not the best example I suppose....... lol I sometimes forget the blown 5l is an advanced little bugger.

Anyway I'm sure the point I was trying to make was understood.
