Plus extra ratios allow for fuel economy overdrives, 5th for around town and 6th on the highway. The 6th gear in the T56 (0.50:1) is what gets LS1s doing sub 9L/100kms on the highway at a steady 100kph, with the standard 3.45 diff the engine is turning over at around 1400rpm.

Me, I'd love it if they fitted the ZF 8 speed auto (Bouka, do you know if this is coming the the Falcon GT?) or the GM equivalent, which I think is in the pipeline for big torque engines. GM already have an 8 speed auto for the HFV6 in the Cadillac ATS and new CTS.

    Cheers, Matthew
Unfortunately the demise of fpv resulted in the end of several great relationships I had made within the upper ranks of that organisation. It was great to have looked behind the scenes and see what I did. That was truly a loss of many passionate people and all I can say is that ford farked that one up.

Next falcon not due till well into 2014 and from what I know it is a pretty substantial update (mostly done). What auto it will have I don't know. Ford is now building it's own zf under license and a recent announcement seemed to suggest that ford/gm will be working together on a new auto.

My sc gt has the zf and it is a masterpiece for an auto. Does it need a 8 speed? I don't think so but I am no expert.

If we ever bought a GTS, it would definitely be an auto. Our GTO was an auto, so is the C63....I'd find it hard to go back to a manual now.
These new V8s have got so much power & torque, they just do it so easily...makes for very relaxing driving.
I suppose not many of you can remember what an EJ Holden, or even an EK was like with an auto?.....bloody hopeless!!!...It's a bit different now....430KW & 740Nm sounds fine to me...with an auto.
    Cheers, Pickles.

Yeah, sure do! Back when I was a kid (almost before cars were invented ) one of my mate's parents had an EJ wagon with the hydramatic and when we were on holidays down at Ocean Grove there was one short but steepish hill it used to really struggle to get up with 4 people in the car. Used to take forever to actually change gears...........

Parents had a Powerglide 186 HT. Always thought the torque converter worked hard for a living moving a car essentially in 1.5th gear from a standing start up a hill...

The new Bentley Mulsanne is a TTV8 with around 1,000 NM of torque and that has the ZF 8 speed. Lets face it, the more torque you have, the more you want an auto.

The LSA should have a pretty flat torque curve, an auto GTS might turn out to be the pick with the faster shifting.

    Cheers, Matthew

Same here, not sure. Since I've had the 370Z I've developed an appreciation for more nimble handling which the AMG will no doubt have, being smaller, lighter and 4WD. The GTS is still going to be a big, heavy bastard!

From my understanding, the extra weight of the torque vectoring diff has made up for the saving in alloy body panels, no doubt another reason to put a blower on it.

I thought the aluminium panels lower the weight of all of the vehicles except the GTS which has the extra weight of the LSA giving it a zero net weight change

I believe the diff also carries significant weight premium over the standard one.

Makes sense. Better technology doesn't come without its downsides. Is torque vectoring actually better than a lighter LSD in the real world?

For alot of people on this forum it could have leaf spring for all they care, it's the straight line grunt they want, if it's anything like the porsche system then it'll do wonders for power down mid corner
