VZ Clubsport Series 2

I'm looking at purchasing a VZ Clubsport Series 2 M6 (one owner). It looks the goods, has 49 on the clock. Took it for a drive & sounded & felt good. It has pacemaker headers & a different exhaust set up to standard HSV. have no idea whether its had a tune or not as the bloke selling didnt know.

Just wanting to know if there is anything I should pay attention to? I do have a question about the clutch it felt very light & easy to push compared to my CV8Z Monaro, but don't know if that has anything to do with km (Monaro only has 7,000) HSV has 49,000 or cos its a 6.0L compared to my 5.7 or whether the clutch might be going??

Also I have to hold the clutch in on HSV to start even if in neutral? My CV8Z you can start without having to engage the clutch if the car is in neutral.

I also noticed the seats (cloth) are soft & the rear had a lot of play in the material like it was loose or sumthn but all the seats did it. Is this common on HSV?

It also looks to have cheap roadstar tyres shame

Not really sure on the clutch feel, with the upholstory that is loose is sounding like the material is coming away from the seat foam, this is something that isn't unusual in older holdens, would have hoped for a few more years before that starts to happen, perhaps the car has been in the sun a lot, hot interior affecting the seat trim adhesives? To fix this I think would be a complete re upholster job and probably new seat foams. With the 49,000 Km is there log books? The soft seats are probably down to a base Clubby is little more than an SS, so SS seats but with HSV trim, you should probaly look at other similar cars for comparison. Things to look out for - engine oil leaks and noises, loose/ rattley suspension etc. Service history.

With the clutch it felt like it didnt have much resistance against it like my CV8Z does. it was relatively easy to depress & not hard.

The seats look in really good condition front & back & haven't lost their shape apart from behind the driver where it looks like a baby seat was. I did run my hand over the back rest of the rear pushing kinda firm & yea the material kinda pulled & I just had to run my hand over it again to smooth out.

It has all the books & shows services well & on time. I only found another few niggling things but nothing a second hand car would have.

My VZ series 2 has about 75K on the clock and the clutch is very light standard. Your seats look to be in great condition in that photo and they are also a cut above standard SS seats.

The cloth parts on the centre of the seats are a bit "loose" on mine as well. The material is more of a multi-layered mesh than straight fabric which I think is why it feels lose. From the pic, it looks to be in great condition!

The clutch start is an added feature in the HSVs as far as I know to stop accidental starts when in gear. I suspect this can probably be turned off with tech2 if you really wanted.

Thanks for all your replies guys in particular - dgp about the clutch, I can now rest knowing yours is some what similar to the one Im looking at and - stewge about the seats, thanks mate you are spot on about the mesh like material used on the inserts and soft foam like feel you get when applying pressure, at least I know its somewhat normal and not a problem of the foam coming apart from underneath. I have to say the interior looks very very good for a car that has come from the top of Australia where it is some what hotter.

the clutch in to start feature is also on the L76 Holden VZs, I thought it was a good safety feature (can be turned off in the tune).

I was suprised about the clutch in mine when I got it so chances are its fine - the interior looks to be in great condition too but I really dont understand why people dont put those mats under car seats... they cost all of $10 and stop those marks.

Some tuners won't turn them off - I believe it's due to these cars turning over by themselves when the ignition is turned on.

Like that cloth interior btw, would not mind getting a set of those seats for my SV8!

The VZ does not self crank, only the VE

as in you can turn the key and let it go and the car will start itself? its not an annoying thing just a good habbit to get into I guess, depressing the clutch in on start up. can you ruin your clutch quicker by holding it in and starting the car while the car is in neutral?

I've never really tried to see if mine will self crank or not, will try it when I get it back. I would have thought that the calibration would have been the same VZ L76 to VE.

VZ 6L with E38 doesn't have the self start. The ignition barrell in th Z is no different to the Y

Haven't read the other replys. But having to have the clutch pedal pushed to start the car is normal, My Z Maloo does same.
