Really people in Australia have no idea these days, but willing to bag out aussie products...One idiot of many says oh I can buy a lambo for that price

i hold little hope for Holden or hsv with people attitude to local cars today
It's quite embarrassing the Aussie mentality. I purchased a second hand SSV and did cam, trutrac, gears, exhaust and suspension, and that would keep me inline with a M5 in a straight line, but I never think its on par with it overall and would never compare the two.
The GTS on paper looks to be fairly good performance per $. I'm certainly considering this car along with a CLA 45 for my next car

I showed the GTS to some American friends they love it and want it, heaps better than what they have locally they said. Apparently the old GTO's over there still sell for over $20K and they got them cheaper than we did. Most of them hate there own Vette's, i don't mind them its probably a common thing, they see them all the time and like something different. We don't see many Vettes so like them

Yep, me too. I honestly am having a hard time deciding between the two. The AMG sales experience is on anther level, though, very relaxed yet professional. I haven't been all that impressed with the HSV buying experience this time around. Making enquiries etc on my 3rd new HSV in 5 years and I'm still treated like a sucker. That is 3rd new HSV from the same dealer group and second from the same salesman. Merc offer a guaranteed value of the vehicle, HSV seem scared to do anything like that. I've got a good feeling the GTS is unlikley to crash in value like most previous HSVs at least but I'd be wary about a Gen F LS3-based HSV. The LT1 is going to be awesome. Have a look at how much torque it makes at only 1000rpm. Peak power will probably not be much higher but it makes a stack more torque all the way through the rev range. The little CLA should be (and feel) fast, it also makes 450Nm at only 2250rpm.

That's because Mercedes already know you are a sucker for paying 4 times the price of what they sell the car for in Germany. Of course they will offer you a guaranteed value. When I tell my German friends that their 20000 Euro BMWs sell for over 100K here they laugh.

Edit - I can guarantee, that I will NEVER buy another German car (and that pains me to write) until I retire in Germany.

4 times? I don't think so. 56,000 Euro in Germany, price expected here for the CLA 45 AMG is around the $75-80,000 mark. A long way short of 4 times the price. The Americans get it even better with the price expected to be $48,000 odd US.

Will be interested to see - Our Audi allroad was more than 4 times the Euro price - and then ticking all the boxes for the better lights, better sound system etc etc shot it through the roof.

It tends to be a pissing contest in certain firms and professions, until you make a name for yourself, you have to have to vehicle of choice amongst those you are aspiring to be like.

My cousin is a Neurosurgeon in Melbourne, when he first started it was a race to the BMW, then Maserati had a bit of thing, then Mercs and now it is Audi. he wouldn't dream of driving a Holden or HSV, even though my Uncle was a Holden fan through and through. All about the BS and image factor. Same goes for the accounting firms I have worked at - junior Manager/Senior Managers trying to climb the ladder, buying the cheaper Euro cars and then upgrading as they go through the ranks. Not many people with the BALLS to buy something Aussie and say F$%k you to the game that is being played around them.

That's very true. I think the orthopaedic and cardiothoracic guys are mostly doing Porsches. I'd far prefer an HSV than a lowish end Merc or BMW, but the little CLA is a real game changer I think. My father (who is a tradesman essentially) somewhat unkindly calls the people who buy low end Euros thinking that they are somehow vastly superior as "almost made-its". Particularly a few years ago when they were very basic devices for the price.

Does it really matter what other people drive? Euro cars are nice and in general still much better put together than a VE so who can blame them if they drive a nice small capacity Euro car. If they wanted to go fast they'd buy a V8 but then again some people just drive a V8 for the wank factor so it works both ways.

I too have a hard time separating the two even though completely different style of cars. The looks and paper specs on the merc look fantastic and a few dollars cheaper too. I guess I'll have to test drive both and make an informed decision. I just have to make sure I don't drive active automotives VF GTS when they have a fiddle with it, otherwise I won't be able to make a fair decision

Yeah, at work BMW is the car of choice. But out of the 6 level car park the car that stands out the most is the bright red series 3 VE GTS .

I've always hated the car from pics online. But in person, nothing has more presence, in a sea of white and silver cars.

    Looks tops.

Re: HSV Gen- F Official Pics and Video Released (Warning: pic heavy)

    Need some test comparisons

But since the Camaro is basically the same running gear underneath, the GTS may have better suspension and the vectoring so the GTS should do about 7.40 or better around Nurburgring. that's quicker than the BMW M3 Gts, Audi R8 v10 etc and about the same as the Merc sls amg.

mmm and with some tuning and boost increase frack your german cars. Still aint gunna beat the the Nissan gtr around there, or can it the Vette does beat it by 5 secs...
