And the sad thing is the Falcon could have been part of an "affordable" RWD global platform in short wheel base guise underpinning the Mustang, Falcon and Territory and in long wheel base guise underpinning the Falcon Ute, Wagon, Fairlane, and Crown Victoria and an extra long wheel base underpinning an LTD and Lincoln Town Car. The Mustang was just a re-bodied Falcon at the start, so it was hardly a radical idea to unify the platform for the cars.

There must have been some seriously f*cked politics in Ford not to want to get the Falcon and Mustang to be built off the same platform. One day we may find out the truth of why it never happened...

I wouldn't mind betting they introduce the Taurus before the Falcon is phased out..... Might help Falcon die a little quicker!

You can buy the soon to be extinct "Falcon" or you can buy the future in large cars "Taurus"

There's few anti-union comments in this thread.

What's Ford closing got to do with Unions? I can't remember Ford blaming them for the closure. The vast majority of Ford workers are probably members of Union and love their company. Same probably goes for Holden.

Such a shame to see our automotive sector in Aus going down this way. People don't want to pay for our well built cars anymore and prefure to buy cheep Chinese and Korean cars that do not last.

But no V8. I don't care how quick the twin turbo V6 is, it's just not a V8. That awesome torque curve, the sound...

Finger crossed on the mustang becoming a reasonably price car for Oz.

My Prado was in being serviced yesterday and I had a meeting at the Gold Coast so I took my GTS instead. Going through the Airport Link tunnels with a 383ci growling snarling V8 was just Porn for the ears!

Is that why the well built Australian cars have 5 year warranties?

better warranty doesnt equal better product. Its just taking a bigger gamble with the numbers

Ok I that's what helps you sleep. A bigger gamble is releasing a large rear drive sedan that no one really wants.

Sorry I meant "doesnt always equal better". and it does help me sleep better. I have products at work that has double the warranty as a competitors product and has over double the failure rate
