redbook is crap, always far lower than reality, especially for private sales. You definitely got a good deal from your old man. Realistically though if looking for resale value you shouldn't be buying a 6L V8 large car in the current climate. You need to make a long term commitment on these (or cop the loss).
Thanks for the advice so far. I'll get around to searching this forum for relevant problem threads.
Can the main issues that crop up be summarised in a list?
It's all good info. The purchase may be happening later rather than sooner so plenty of time to consider all options. Plenty out there to choose from.
Can also add as others have, I was looking at a VE SS and couldn't justify not walking away with an SSV, the extras are well worth it, the main things I like over the SS are the leather seats and the 6 stack player with screen, the speakers are great and it has two small parcel shelf subs which compliment it perfectly, it's not thumping base just nice.
Haven't had any regrets from the purchase yet.
I have had a little water in the front passenger side but it wasn't due to fault is was due to a bunch of leaves blocking the drain pipe for the cabin fresh air intake had some water flow down the pipes into the car.
here's a link to some pics http://www.ls1.com.au
If you go for auto you could consider a Calais V also. Colour choice is more limited in Calais, seats are different to SSV. I prefer the spoiler that you often see on the Calais V's to the SS type which does block your rear vision a lot. In Sydney paper this morning is a Karma Calais V 6.0 2010 59,000 Km for $23,990
I was offered 30k changeover on a series 1 ss ute for a redline ute
I test drove a 07 ssv auto the other day and it had two buttons in front of the shifter one was the traction control button and one was the sports button but when I test drove a 08 ssv auto today it only had the traction control button is there reason they dropped the sports button?
Yeah both models you could move the shifter across and change it manually but in front of the shifter on the console it 2 buttons but on the 08 it looks like they dropped the sports mode button
Yes, the newer models removed the sports mode button, but on these models the act of moving the shifter across enabled sports mode. Only when the shifter was then moved up or down would it then switch to manual. So all modes are still there, just the method to enable sports mode changed.
Since I started this thread I have seen a couple of really nice SS-V Redlines come up, just out of budget but if I bide my time it may be do-able.
How much better are the Brembo brakes over standard? Are the pads and rotors much more expensive to relace than standards or are the costs really poisonous? Just want to know if it's a worthwhile thing or just something for brand image?
