Oh dear, I only want it to sound like a V8 and hope I don't end up spending 20k. I can definitely see how easy it is though.

    Talk soon mate.
If the Redlines won't fit the HSVs won't either. I believe the front calipers are a similar size.

I recently spent just over $400 total on new rotors (slotted and dimpled RDAs on front, slotted RDAs rear) and new Remsa pads all round and the difference from stock is amazing! Much more bite! If you can't justify the cost of changing rims or don't want to (I love my DTM Shines) then (IMO) it's a very cost effective brake upgrade. Only small downside is the Remsas are a fair bit dustier than stock.

I do now remember seeing that somewhere before! In that case if I understand correctly things I've read you won't really get any significant improvement going big brakes unless you're doing track days.

    Probably right there Wonky.

I'm thinking coilovers will make the biggest difference, just fear it might end up too uncomfortable. Extractors and cats aren't going to make massive differences but no risk of making things any worse either.

Yea extractors and cats wont make a big difference unless you cam it or get supercharger. Thats the only reason im going full exhaust for the supercharger to come after that otherwise cat back exhaust might be good enough.

    Re: Order of modifications

Yes, I'm still undecided.. but getting fidgitty and going to make a decision very soon.

The options I am considering are:

My target ride height will be around 375mm all round.

1). Harrop KW Street Comfort Coilovers - $2500 parts ($3000 installed) [Harrop installed]
    2). H&R Springs + Bilstein shocks - $1650 ($2049 installed) [Quadrant installed]
3). Bilstein and King Spring package for $1497 inc gst and freight [GSL supplied]

If I went either of the spring packages I would then consider buying the Sureflo VE headers and cats.

    What say you all?

Which option would you guys go with ???

Anything wrong with suspension or you just want it lower ? From my experience suspension, unless you're into cornering hard or track days is not worth tampering with as your ride just becomes more uncomfortable and give cops another excuse to book you with.

My suspension is boat like is the best way to put it. Its nice on highways but there is way to much body roll round corners and it can bounce around a lot while cornering hard if there are bumps which is quite disconcerting.

I'm not interested in going super low as I have been there, done that and never want to do it again A little lower than stock is fine, I just don't want to have issues going over regular speed bumps or going up drive ways.

Maintaining comfort while improving the cornering performance is the main aim. Improve looks via slight lowering is a bonus.

KW coilovers, do it once do it right. The fact that you are seriously considering them is enough in my books. I have found, if there has ever been a better option that I have considered and not gone with, I have always regretted it and thought "what if..." and often ended up buying them later anyway.

Whilst Bilstein shocks are an awesome quality product, in fact I use them in the rear of my ute. The coilover set up will allow you to tune it how you want.

    Re: Order of modifications

Howdy all - Been lurking for a while and reading this thread with interest as I have recently picked up a 2007 SSV. i tuned my old WRX STI a little so whilst experience with the V8s is low I am now stranger to creeping scope when it comes to tuning!

For the sake of this thread I hope you go full bore coil overs AND then headers and cats...but for the sake of your wallet I would be going the other way round....

From a sheer enjoyment factor I think you are far more likely to enjoy the headers and extractors more....increased response, better sound!

Unless you are tracking the thing I would leave the suspnesion alone until it is actually tired. I bet its not *really* boaty...I drove a couple of classic cars recently...now thats boaty! I also just drove a carbon copy ute version of my car with coilovers....on the road...the difference was......I couldn't really tell because I was too interested in the AWESOME sounds it was making with the cats and headers done!

My personal route is going to be noise + a bit of power (really because a lot can be extracted from exhaust intake and tune without breaking the bank).

On various cars I hear a lot of people (in quiet, under their breath and muted tones) that their coilover suspension is a bit of a pain on the road...it squeaks, knocks, too harsh etc etc.......the people that are most happy are those that spent the most cash, so like the previous poster, if you are going to do it do it properly first time! In a nut shell I think on road, its an expensive mod that you don't get the best from.

    Good luck though lol!

    Hi Tas,

Will the extractors actually change the sound that much?

I have a cat back already, will the extractors change it significantly?

Yes, yes, yes, yes. I had an Xforce catback only on my VY, sounded hollow and drony. Change the headers and cats, and now it has a nice growl, almost silent on the highway, loud when you stomp on the go pedal. VERY VERY happy since I did the front end of the system.
