+1. Both my VE and VF have done this

Its when going over light small bumps that the coils hit and make the thump. Big bumps just compress the spring together. (Sounds strange, but when going over big bumps the spring compresses and even though there is contact, the noise is subdued due to the coils staying in contact. Small bumps, the coils bang together. The noise reverberates when the coils are apart which is why its louder than going over big bumps)

    Which springs are you using?
    Thanks for the reply Benno.

Springs are Lovells - part number actually has 'R&D' in front of it - so presumably early release parts.

If the springs are clashing would you see any witness marks on the coils? Car has only done a few hundred kms between springs being fitted and last visit so maybe too soon to see any marks - I would have presumed they would have checked this!?

As a fellow "Regal Peacock", undstand, but have had a lot of black cars, and they are worse!!!

HVAC on mine is <censored>. I understand a (another!!!) software update IS due in the next week, ask your service guys (mine are hanging on getting it to get me and all my problems off their back).

I doubt you will see witness marks on the spring. If you still have your old springs, try and place the coil wrap off it on the coils that look the closest together at ride height. I dont know what the lovell springs look like, but im assuming they are variable rate?

I spoke to WA Suspensions today and told them my research has led me to believe that it is indeed spring bind/coil clash. They are getting a pair of King Springs in tomorrow and I will get them fitted on Friday.

Not sure if they are variable rate or not and I dont recall seeing any wrap on the std springs.

Fingers crossed the new springs solve the problem and maintain the same ride height. The more i thought about it the more it made sense that the spring change was at fault - if the car clunks now it surely would have been clunking with the std springs albeit maybe less often due to the softer spring rate. The only change was the springs so chances are the noise is due to them.

What part number King springs? Anything lower than SL and you will get some noise. Kings are variable and have some thin coil wrap on them.
If the car is slammed then your coil clash might go away Offending coils will be in constant contact with those around it and there wont be the instance of coils banging together and then apart.
I had SSL in a previous VE and there was occasional noise. No massive clunks etc. I found it fine to live with.

Just picked up the car from Holden and so far so good, attached is a copy of the Service Sheet for anyone interested.

Basically they replaced GM13584324 - RETAINER-F/SEAT CUSH LATL

Seat base noise as per techline 2366-1310 whatever that means?

Apparently this is a revised clip to stop and forward/ backwards and sideways movement ... a clip sounds a lot less than your replacement base, will keep you posted if it resolves the issue!

I have been told this is the part that is on order for my drivers seat movement issue.....

The part that is on order for your car is GM13582455 FRAME ASM-F/SEAT C

I have NFI if that is the whole seat base or part of it

    VF Commodore/HSV Owner's Problems & Complaints

I'm finding my seat base move a lot, it feels like a seat with a lot more than 3500km on it. My dealer isn't all that excited and said the seat clip fix is only if there is a squeaking sound associated with it? I jumped in another GTS there with only 800Km on it and it was actually worse than mine!

    Re: VF Commodore/HSV Owner's Problems & Complaints

When my dealer (service department) asked if I had any issues I didnt at the time but asked him about all the reports of climate control issues and they told me thats funny we have never heard of any problems with it. What a joke they basically lie to your face.

I've only had 1 complaint about climate control issues and we've probably sold a couple of hundred, so it's not really uncommon to not hear much about it. Sure there's the campaign but I've only had 1 customer note that he had concerns and it was fixed with the update.

The seat fix is to lube and replace a retaining clip on the base. It's only a little plastic clip.

    Re: VF Commodore/HSV Owner's Problems & Complaints

If you'd like a clean copy of my service sheet to stick under your dealerships nose PM me your email address and I'll shoot it across, sounds like a lazy service department! The guys told me this should fix the problem but to bring it back and they'll keep trying but this was the only part showing signs of wear and IS a known problem!
