G'Day. All Defenders are built to order, & unless you can obtain a Defender with the options that you want that a Dealer has in stock, it has to be ordered, and built for you, at Solihull U.K., where they have been built sinse 1948.
We wanted a few options on ours, so it was the subject of a special build/order.

the thinking mans 4x4! (also deaf mans lol).
love it and a keeper given production is nearly over..
"Deaf Man's"...Ha ha ha...you know them well, & you've got it right,......but, it's a lovely "noise"!
And obviously you DO know them well, because yes, production will finish on 20th December 2015.
I haven't, & neither has anyone else, got any clue what the next "Defender" will be,.....lots of speculation though.
You've owned a LandRover yourself?
Cheers, Pickles.
What engine? I remember a few years ago LR did a batch of 4.0L V8 90 Series for the US market, would have been a fun little car.
Cheers, Matthew
I spent most of my money on unreliable cars and less reliable women, the rest I wasted.

Yes, that's right they did, and they also did a "50th Anniversary" 4.0L V8 Defender 90 in the UK, I think only 350 were made for the UK, they were made by LandRover Special Vehicles, were all painted blue, and were autos with an external roll cage. Through the years , not for a while now though, there have been various LandRovers with 3.5/3.9 V8 engines, which I would have thought would have been desirable, but most of the UK "enthusiasts" seem to be just as happy with the 4 cyl. versions.
All Defenders now have identical engines, a ("MASSIVE"??!!) 2.2L Puma (Ford Transit Engine) diesel engine, 90KW, but a fairly respectable 360NM. From 2012, Defenders also have been given a 6 speed manual gearbox (no autos available), which has enabled a lower 1st gear, & a higher top gear equating to 2000RPM @ 100kph, so not too bad for Aussie journeys.

"Toorak Tractor"????, Well, the Range Rover guys might not be happy with that assumption, but I know what you mean, & have no problem with your question, because it will probably be true to some extent, but hopefully not 100%.
We can't really "get off the beaten track" with our current car, the Defender will enable us to do so, but we ain't gonna be climbing sand dunes, fording rivers etc etc, I'm too old to start learning that sort of stuff,....quite happy to admit it. But travelling around the Goldfields, the Mallee etc etc, there are lots of historical places that we'd like to visit,...we will be able to do that now.
Plus, being an old Pom, & the fact that Wifey'd Dad owned one in the U.K., we both have a bit of an affinity with them.
Cheers, Pickles.
