Special adaptor to send video from iPad to head unit

Well there's your answer. Same story with my Pioneer AVIC F930BT (and the AppRadio I had before it). Unfortunately I can't see the head unit manufacturers whinging at Apple since it'll lead to more people upgrading to the latest and greatest but it stinks when someone's perfectly serviceable head unit won't work with a new phone/tablet just because the phone manufacturer changed something in their specifications. Bastards. And we've all got a spare $1500+ laying around to upgrade just because of this... yep sure.

Your head unit should support video playback via USB (perhaps SD card too?)... maybe this can work for you as an alternative.

Yeah it's frustrating, when you spend a lot of a head unit and not long after the latest tablet/iPod isn't completely compatible due to a new connector or firmware

What did you do with your iPhone 4S that was working before? Can't you keep it in the glovebox hooked up to the car all the time?

I have an iPhone 4 connected to my AVIC unit all the time just for music. Lives in the glovebox and I only ever touch it whenever I decide to put new music on it.

My iPhone 4S is only 16GB (which is only really 13.5GB) and its my work phone. With my work stuff, a few apps and music ...that 13.5GB is filled up. I'm always deleting old stuff to put new music on. I also can't fit any movies on it.

I'm after a bigger iPod touch, preferably 32GB or 64GB so I can add movies onto it and also put music onto it without compressing it too much. With my music I really want to rip CDs at a higher bit rate (like lossless) and not have to worry about space on the iPod/iPhone

So true, however silly me has been ripped off for years by iTunes...so I've already paid a nice premium for all of my songs.

Spotify isn't without its faults.

1) You have to pay to listen to music you may already have paid for elsewhere
2) You need a reliable mobile data connection (no such thing) with available capacity and bandwidth
3a) Even if your head unit supports phone apps like my old Pioneer Appradio, you're at the mercy of dealing with phone apps with their need for constant updates, bugs, crashes etc
3b) If your head unit doesn't natively support phone apps then you have to pick up your phone and play with it whilst driving - a really big no no
4) The whole concept is far from Mrs proof

I'll stick with having the old iPhone living in the glovebox. It's reliable, Mrs proof, works everywhere and costs me nothing to listen to anything on there. And if that phone dies there's another 3 sitting in the cupboard.

Its $3 a week FFS, if you can't afford that you can't afford to drive. Plus there is a free mobile version now.. Similar to Pandora, but it doesn't suck

Nope, you can sync at home and have what ever you want stored on your device for offline play

Nope, as above and I know with iPhone it integrates exactly the same as the Music App, track names, steering wheel control, the works

If your misses can use a a normal music app, she can use Spotify. If anything syncling is even easier.

I have one phone that does everything, you could sell your iPhone 4 and have like 2 years of unlimited music with what you'd get for it

Try the free version on your pc. It's full featured but has some adds.

Premium is basically just no ads and on mobile unlimited track skips and play what ever you want

Can sync full albums, playlists, individual songs or use the radio which is genre based and unlike pandora. Will actually play music you know

You can store it on your device mate. Ie DOWNLOAD Who cares if you don't own it. Playlists will stay even if you lets your subscription lapse

It's not even really about the money that makes it so good. It's the convenience of having every track you can think of instantly at your disposal.

Eg hottest 100 was yesterday. Triple J already has a playlist of every track ready to go on their spotify channel. Add playlist. Boom all there on all my devices.

I want it stored. I hit the toggle. Easy as taking a shit

Good suggestions guys, however I'd prefer to try and find a cabled solution since the loss in audio quality is always quite noticeable when using a form of Bluetooth

Do they not support the higher Bluetooth? Aptx or whatever it is? I use that with my headphones and phone and there's no noticeable difference between cordless or corded... Or CD for that matter
