Re: My VX R8 Clubby won't go

Unfortunately I don't know much about these systems, all I am being told here is that HSV cars have an extra layer of security that no one can access except a dealer, the 2 scan tools I have had plugged in this week would suggest that is the case. The sparky I had on Friday said he could not disable the VATS with his tool, it was a Snap on scanner, and from what I have seen of my mates Tech 2 it is a Chinese thing that probably won't access everything.
Anyone know someone in Brisbane with a real Tech 2?

You really need to be a HSV dealer to reset the security - HSV need to send a programming file for that vehicle. You can't disable VATS with a Tech2, you need to get the ECM unlocked and tuned by a tuner who can disable the security options - but you'll still have issues with the body functions (as the BCM handles security and that's what's gone to shit). Take it to the HSV dealer, pay them an hour or 2 labour and stop cheaping out trying to get mates to dodgy it up with cheap shit scan tools.

So I trucked my car to Zupps at Aspley, my closest HSV dealer, they initially quoted $175 to scan and reset the system, which I thought was acceptable. I got a call this arvo from the service girl telling me it will cost just under a grand, as the have to fit a BCM and supply 2 new keys, program and cut them. I asked for the price breakdown, $450 labour, around $400 for keys and $140 BCM, why do I feel like I am being bent over?

    Cos its a Holden dealer...
Tell them you only want one key and get another one thru a locksmith if you want a second. Sure won't cost you $200!

Nope paddle pop keys cannot be reprogrammed, they are a once only affair.

Mate if your key is the original & now not working is probably a dud battery! Problem is you have to split your key to replace it. solder the new batt. in & carefully hot glue it all back together! Done one of mine previously, though honestly not worth the effort!!

That's funny, the sparky last week reconed he can re code them to a new BCM, in any case I will ask tomorrow if they can just do 1 key head and reuse my key blade.

I'd be surprised as these key heads have been a one prog. use since early 90's models!

I think your missing the crucial point here, and that is Zupps is saying the BCM is shot. When the bcm goes in these series vehicles, keys must be programmed to new BCM, then new BCM linked. Being a HSV It's going to need what Smash has stated further up the thread and that's a HSV specific code that the dealer only has access to from HSV. If its just the key that's shit it's self code still needed from HSV

That's it in a nutshell. There aint no cheap way out of it.

cannot comment on the keys or BCM but $450 for labour is strange. That is over 4 hours actual labour (most dealerships are now charging over $100/hr) and there is no way it will take 4 hours to do the keys and swap the BCM
... even if they get the junior office girl to do it!

Most dealerships are over $120/h now.
I'd say 2.5h is reasonable assuming they spent 1h diagnosis.
