    Holden Cruze Steering Lock Problem

I Have an SRVi Holden Cruze.
It has an intermittent problem with the steering lock check light coming on for no reason.
Sometimes it comes on and the car wont start leaving you stranded.
Our local Holden dealer has not been able to find the problem. So am hoping someone in this forum may have had this problem.
It appears from talking to others that it is a common fault.

I too have this problem on a 2012 SRiV Manual. I have never had a problem with it not starting though.

Quick search comes up with some different answers....Some people are saying that there is a software update which fixes the problem and others are saying the software update does not help at all.

I will be getting Holden to have a look at it when the car is next due for a service.

Customer Satisfaction Program 12-CS-03 – Steering Column Lock Message & No Start.
Talk to your dealer to confirm if your VIN is in the applicable range for this re-work hotrex, and if it is, whether it has been performed or not.

There was another known issue that requires replacement of the drivers window motor (believe it or not!), but it shouldn't be your issue. You would have the message but you CAN start the car.

No. Dealer has to log in to the online warranty system to look for outstanding campaigns against a VIN.

You may have the second of my listed known issues. Window lifter tells the BCM that the door lock is sitting in the incorrect position which triggers the code, but doesn't prevent a start.

I've had a my2014 model for a month or so now and my only gripe with it is, the stupid auto aircon fans.

can be driving along and all of a sudden the blower speed jumps 2 settings for no reason. i.e temperature hasn't changed it just does it randomly. I kept thinking it was my left knee hitting the dial but ive tried to do it on purpose and there is no way I could.
It's happened before, It will all happen again.

    Thank you for your post.
Cannot supply VIN as it is currently at the Holden dealer again.
Your post about the window motor may have hit the nail on the head as the Holden dealer this time said he has ordered parts for the window unit.
    Thanks for your help

I've driven a number of different cars with climate control that, when relatively early in a driving session, what you describe happens.
My understanding is that the HVAC modules are detecting that the existing settings wont achieve the desired temp in the time required, so it changes things.
It is probably also changing the hot/cold mix and also possibly the fresh/recirc flap. Even closing off the fresh flow to recirc can "appear" to ramp up the fan speed because you hear an increase in fan noise.
Not sure if it's what you describe, but hopefully it gives you an insight into how things work under there.

Unfortunately, it's that retarded in mine. it turns the fans on..... when I have turned it all off! haha

I'm going to mention it when it goes in for it's 1st service, or I might just see if there is an update for it on tis2web and do it myself.

    Thanks for the info PD.

I will be getting it looked at when it's in for it's next service.

Testing my memory here, but I seem to recall having a couple of different Cruze' with auto air that, when manually turning down the fan setting, it would start up again.
Pretty sure you had to turn "auto" off, or press "off" (think it had that button?) to stop it operating in "auto mode".
I don't drive Cruze variants that often to remember for sure.
