Plex Media Server - How To Consume Your Media In Style

Because they aren't made available that quickly at all. Hulu+ also doesn't allow me to sync and is geo blocked so I can't watch them on my mobile devices even if I did want to rape my data. Been there done that.

What do you mean content available when your away as you are home. So you able to watch your TV shows that you've downloaded at home while your away on a tablet? Do you use data for that or have I misread?

What I mean is I can watch anything on my server regardless if I'm home or not. I can manually scale the quality too depending on how much data I want to burn.
But yes I can effectively watch stuff on my phone/tablet that I've downloaded at home, even without going home to sync it. Yeah it uses data, how much depends on your settings you choose.

Stopped using a home server for movies last year. I just download shows using XBMC now. I have an android box hooked to my TV and the app on my phone and tablets for portability as well. One Channel add on loaded on and you can stream what ever you want whenever you want. No need to store anything. HD content also available and you also get all the cover art and stuff show up when browsing for whatever.

XBMC has it's own website you can download from. Just it and it'll be the first non add link you will see. Go to downloads and you can find the platform you want to grab.

As for where does it source its content from? You have a range of torrent and stream sites that you chose before you play what you want to see. Sites like divxstage, beststreams, flashx etc. Different Add Ons will give you different sources. Just do a search on for "best xbmc add on for shows, movies, music, sport etc." and it you will have a few to chose from.

Just doing a bit of research now. Some good plugins out there for xbmc. Trying supercloudtv now which has a Plex plugin. Cheers for the heads up

Youtube has some great tutorials if you ever get stuck on anything. I tried Supercloudtv but didn't get very far with it as none of the preloaded content I had on my Android box worked. I somehow got the wrong box so had to load XBMC on it myself which wasn't difficult at all after a few minutes of youtube searching.

I had a play with add ons throughout the week and XBMC. The content is hit and miss for the not so legal stuff and the interface I find clunky. Will be sticking with PLEX and torrents for now.

Plex Media Server - How To Consume Your Media In Style

I just set up a netcomm 6300 with dnla capability, i put all my "stuff" on a 4 tb usb3 hd and plugged it into the router. All done. Works with samsung and lg smart tv ps3, dlink and most surprising of all roku streaming stick. And the best thing is i can turn off the pc. This sort of setup makes all the software media servers feel like workarounds i tried watching 3 different movies in different rooms on different devices at the same time and it didnt even glitch.

That setup is what I used to do. Works ok but DLNA is very basic. You can't fast forward or rewind on TV's either with DLNA streaming. PS3 does. But still no media art, descriptions or tracking of your media.

Odd cause I've never been able to on any LG or Samsung TV I've used. Friends have confirmed the same thing (2013-14 TV's too). USB connected directly will work, but not via a DLNA NAS.

I wouldn't call a proper media server "fluff" DLNA is very basic. If thats all you want then fine, I've been there done that and found it extremely limited. But there are others out there that want far more features and thats why I wrote this thread.
