I'll look into it. One of the exhaust shops here in Brisbane is pretty confident that some J pipes will sort the drone out. They've got some experience with a few GTSs now and think they have it nailed.

Manual here too but the drone is very bad. Seems to hit the boot and cabin resonant frequencies at around 1000-2200rpm, i.e. drone is always there, even at idle! Not good.

I really think the DF 1 metre long centre mufflers really stop it. My other problem next i think is going to be my cats as im still running the 200cell ones. I think ill destroy them very quickly after this next tune or during the dyno run maybe.

It probably won't help you due to how much drone you have, but i laid dynamat throughout my boot as i had a bit of resonance at 2500rpm. It only lasted until about 2700rpm, but for that 200rpm the whole car vibrated, it was more a vibration/resonance/boom type sound. The dynamat toned it down heaps. So if there's still a bit of resonance when you fit j pipes, try some dynamat in the boot. Mine was really bad when the exhaust was first fitted, but then i realised i didn't have the spare in the boot. Put that back in, plus dynamat and the difference was huge. The massive open wheel well was the main cause of my drone/resonance. Obviously we're talking different cars here, but just pointing out some things that might help.

One thing to be mindful of; I hated the J pipes on my caprice. They hung down like dogs balls, looked ugly and scraped on bloody everything (even driving at 100km/h on a country road they'd hit and scrape). The LWB didn't help, but it was only lowered on SSL all round, which was equivalent to SSSL for a sedan. My front bar easily cleared gutters, and i had plenty of clearance, it was just the exhaust that hung so low. Hopefully they tuck up a bit better on the GTS.

Mate from memory you had the Sureflo exhaust on your car. That's the reason you had the clearance issues. I've got the same system it is appalling.. It's not the design from Holden/hsv it's That particular systems poor design.

Any decent HM, difillipo, kpm or vcm system and you wouldn't have any drone or clearance issues.

Vulture I am sure I went for a ride in your old senator after you sold it. I thought that had a great drone free note!

Correct mate, i did have the sureflo, and yeah it hung really low. I know some other makes tucked up a bit more. I still notice J pipes on other holdens hanging quite low. But yeah, i agree the sureflo system probably did contribute mostly to how low it was.

Yeah mate hindsight is a wonderful thing. I've now noticed that all the quality drone free systems don't need j pipes to achieve it either. Anyway taking thread off topic so that is all

^ No, I like the standard wheels, but I have to admit those ones don't look too shabby

    Nicely lowered as well

I generally judge how good a car like the GTS on what people do to them, was thinking to myself not many people have changed the styling. That's the first I've seen that's done wheels, maybe I need to get out more but the car has been around for about a year now.

    Re: Supercharged HSV?

Fair point Club, I think the standard wheels and the optional SV wheels (which I have) suit the car well. One thing that influences my decision on wheels is that the GTS wheels are forged and much much lighter than the other HSV wheels that are cast. My front wheel and tyre weighs 22kg while a cast HSV 20" wheel alone is pretty much that weight. I have been thinking about picking up another boot lid and either keeping it naked or fitting a lip spoiler. A guy in the US is doing a larger Carbon version of the lip spoiler so I will wait and see how that looks on the SS before I make a decision. That way I can swap the boot lids and subtly change the appearance. Other than that I am happy to drive the best Holden ever made.

Those 22s look great but it's a bit of compromise Tyre wise

    Re: Supercharged HSV?

Hi guys the car in the picture is mine I have the Harrop exhaust fitted with factory bi modal setup and the car has no drone at all, but if i change the vacuum to open flaps direct i do notice it a little so definitely the flaps do work, tyre wise with extra power doesn't matter what tyres you have on them it will always be all over the place if you step on it, the car rides awesome and you wouldn't really know the car had been modified even with the bigger wheels and lower profile tyres. I'm not sure how to post images on here.

    Well it certainly looks awesome!!

I love the car the way it was delivered and have played b4 changing wheels on other cars and have never been happy with the result, and tend to spend my extra $ on performance, I also really like the stock tyres at the track, very good feel even with the massive weight of the car and would want to play too much with that. Could do with a bit of a lowering though to harden it up in corners and even out the weight distribution under braking & cornering
