The whole point of the J pipe (Hemholtz) set up is if done properly it eliminates drone.

    Re: Supercharged HSV?

After a year in my GTS I want to open by saying this is the best car I have ever owned. It is probably 99% of what I want from a car. That naturally won’t be everyone’s experience but for me this ticks just about all the boxes. This car is my daily driver, no track days, no burn outs, no dumb stuff. I use it to drive to and from work about 25km each way and also on a number of business and private trips on country roads. I started writing and ended up with about 5 pages so this is the Readers’ Digest version.

For the last 18,000km I am averaging 15.8L/100 at 47.3km/h. I have no idea if this is good or bad; it is what it is. Tyres are knackered and all four are due for replacement in the next 3 or 4 km. The only negative comment I have with the tyres is that when they are cold and the road is cold their grip level diminishes and you need to be aware of that. Brakes look as though they are about 60%.

    Things I like:
    • Torque vectoring; it is fantastic but be careful using torque vectoring in the wet unless you are wearing brown trousers
    • Brakes; these are quite simply the best brakes I have ever had they do the business without any vices or complaints
    • Electronic suite; the traction control, stability control and how these vary with the MRC suspension mode is simply outstanding
    • Suspension tune; I use all three and haven’t bottomed out the suspension or found it harsh, great choice of damping settings
    • The interior; quite simply this is a nice place to be.
    • HUD; I don’t know that I could live without this now, there is a glare occasionally on the screen though
    • Exhaust note; with bimodals open the burble at idle is there but understated while wide open throttle is a nice noise without overwhelming the passengers but then I am probably a boring old fart
    • Power; there is nearly enough power for a daily driver, the delivery is seamless without any hidden nasties.

    Things I don’t like:
    • HVAC; this is poor and blows hot air when there is barely any difference between outside and inside temperatures even when it is 20C or more outside
    • Lights; these too are poor, I would love something better whether it is HIDs or just decent lights with some spread
    • The HUD reflection, I will try and use some matt black vinyl around the HUD unit and see if that fixes the problem but the reflection does get annoying
    • Wipers; not sure what happened here but I had to add a non-return valve
    • I have an occasional rattle from the passenger seat
    • Glare from the chrome trim.

    Things I would like:
    • Better lights
    • Flappy paddles
    • More intuitive HVAC
    • Carbon trim around the console and anywhere else there is chrome trim
    • A few more kW…………………………………….

What is on the menu for the 2nd year?
    • Wheels, maybe. Something like a Forgeline GA1R, GA3R though in reality there is nothing wrong with the factory SV wheels, waiting on Plenty to see how they look!
    • Tune and airbox, 600+BHP sounds nice, but nothing radical like a stage II or III etc
    • Rear spoiler, looking at a Senator or a similar carbon version, means a new boot lid but should be a subtle change to the looks
    • Another trouble free 18,000+km.

    Re: Supercharged HSV?

Gave the GTS a quick wash, it really needs a clay bar and light buff but that will have to wait for another couple of weekends. At least I removed the 12,453,879,502.5 bugs glued to the front after a couple of country trips.
