    VY/VZ SS or VY/VZ SV8 ??

Hey just wondering what the difference in between the two are? Sv8's seem to be cheaper but on redbook they still have the same power output as the SS.

Im thinking project wise the SV8 is a better value but Im not entirely sure about it.

I checked out the whirlpool forums and the amount of people who don't actually know is appauling.

hopefully someone here can explain the differences thanks.

    In a nutshell.......
SV8 has heaps less stuff standard, smaller wheels but same running gear.
SV8 is much lighter than SS.

    Same as VESS versus VESSV

SV8's are popular for drag car projects because they weigh less.

SS got a bit more body kit, bigger wheels and leather interior. SV8 is basically an executive with a V8.
Popular 1/4 mile projects because they are cheaper and lighter than the SS. Get an MY06 model because 6.0.

    Re: VY/VZ SS or VY/VZ SV8 ??

    What SS got over the SV8;
    - body kit
    - 18" instead of 17" (different pattern)
    - leather seats instead of cloth
    - 6 stacker instead of single CD
    - 4 window electrics instead of just fronts (unless you get the power pack, which I did, giving you cruise as well)
    - not sure of climate control etc.
    - possibly gauges?

and the SV8 was quicker to 100 and over the quarter, but not by much...

As the owner of a VZ MY06 SV8, get the SS. Climate control, leather is much nicer than the VZ seat cloth, higher resale, different headlights, nicer dash, gearknob and pedals (didn't the SS also get binnacle gauges?). Also the SS has the SSZ spec C6 brakes the SV8 only has std brakes. Mine does have cruise and all electric windows though.

I thought there was literally no weight difference. Oh and the boot spoiler is a different shape, not that it bothers me.

I actually wish I'd paid a bit more again for the Clubsport, as the longer I own the car, the more I find myself wanting those extra little nice bits. I do like the 17" wheels though, as better quality tyres can be had cheaper.

Too right they ain't that easy to find a My06 with a 6L, especially so with a M6! Took me almost 6 months to find my 6L Crewie!

Love the sv8 no one notices you inc cops

Re above posts the SV8 was a red, silver or black only in VY in VZ thee were some impulse blue ones.

Find best value and condition, if your going to mod eg cam etc stay with the 5.7(no dod lifters to relace)

Don't be scared to lift the heads & get a 6L! You'll enjoy the added torque!

Ah no I'll keep the far superior factory heads and power potential, not a huge amount of work to have the DoD gear replaced, as it's only the valley plate, lifter trays and PCV hose that's extra (since IMO you should change the lifters anyway).

Yeah if you debadge especially it's pretty hard to tell when the car's off. When I bought mine, there was under 20 SS / SV8 MY06 with <150k km and M6 on Carsales.

I got an SSZ, but looked at a few SV8's and didn't buy because most of the ones I seen were thrased, one even had fresh rubber in the quarters.

Any way I love the SSZ, leather, climate, larger brakes, binnicale gauges, etc.

    As a project I would say SV8

SV8 is nearly as pov pack as an LS1 Exec why not go for a vt/y LS1 exec or if you have the patience, a MY06 VZ 6L exec. The initial cost and on going insurance would surely be cheaper than the SV8.

    Re: VY/VZ SS or VY/VZ SV8 ??

What people have said here is pretty spot on. The SV8 was Holdens attempt to provide a low cost V8 option. I bought a VY when they first came out because I couldn’t quite stretch to the SS. At that stage there was no SSV. The SV8 became the SS and the SS became the SSV. Anyhow mine had wind up windows, no cruise control, normal A/C instead of climate control (I actually still use the normal AC in my CV8 because I don’t really like the climate control), 17” wheels instead of 18s, no leather and different instruments. I think the Stereo was a lower spec to. It also had a different rear spoiler and no body kit. I optioned mine up with a Holden By Design body kit which I think made it look a lot better than the normal “Executive with a rear spoiler” look. Also got the sports steering wheel and alloy door handles. I loved that thing. The SS definitely was a better finished off car though and I think the weight difference was possibly not as “huge” as some people allude to here.

    Same loved mine

aug 04 VY II last of the Vy's had 6 stacker 4 power windows cruise etc. The 232/234 cam ripshifter and 3.9 gears made that a fun car to drive and no police to annoy me.

    Wish holden still did a exec/omega/evoke V8
