No laws on that, a car can be written off for many reasons including water damage, hail damage, stolen and recovered with parts missing, etc, etc...

You can normally see if a tyre is damaged if you have a good look at it off a rim on the inside and outside

and tyres would be too hard to trace anyway.

Re: Bridgestone Potenza Sale - Buy 3, 4th Free

Im due for new tyres on my VZ clubbie and i can't decide what to get.

It has yoko advan sports on it at the moment.
Ive had tyres like kumho's and pirelli pzeros in the past.... so i don't know what to get ie whether bridgestones, pirellis, yokohamas, good year f1's etc..

the clubbie originally had semi-slicks pirelli corsa's and the wheels size is 18x8 ( so 235/40/18 tyres ), how expensive are these compared to the more normal tyres like i mention above?

    any suggestions?

i would like to retain as much grip as possible for my car, but can only budget at max ~$300-320 a tyre. (wheels are 18'')

    Was quoted for RE002s...

    235/40R18 @ $230/tyre (So thats 4 for $690 fitted and balanced)
    245/35/R19 @ $363/tyre (so thats 4 for $1089 fitted and balanced).

As wonky pointed out, these deals are usually crap but that seems very good value for that tyre/size combination. IIRC last time i paid over $1000 for a set of RE040 in 235/40/R18.

That sounds really good.. I've never had Re002's before, and looking at the bridgestone website its hard to tell what the differences in their tyres are ie/ SOO1's 2's, RE00xx etc etc

Can you tell me where you got the quote for the 245/35/19's please?
I emailed my local bridgestone centre this morning, and was quoted $439 each.
I want to hit them to match it. $76 difference per tyre is crap from my local.

Bugger! I got a pair of RE002's for the rear of my VZ Clubby at the end of March, if I had of known this deal was coming I would have waited and done the fronts and the same time with this 4 for 3 deal, the RE002's are brilliant tyres.

smash69 I paid $393 per tyre for 245/35/19 from Jax in Haberfield, Bridgestone tyre centre was only $3 dearer @ $396. $439 sounds a bit rich, makes you wonder if they've jacked up the prices to make back some of the deficet from the 4 for 3 deal.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Pfffft, just shot an email back to the sales guy at hunter regional sales for bridgestone whom gave me the quote for $439, and the best he can do is $430 he says.
His reason being " we are giving away one tyre, and we have to fund that".

Sounds like price jacking to me.

Needless to say, I will spend my pesos elsewhere.
    Thanks guys.

With such deals as this they're normally based on full retail prices to cater for those who don't do their homework and are sucked in by the advertising. You'll often find that if you shop around you can match, or better, the deal anyway. Not always, but often.

I didn't haggle, couldn't be bothered. Set of S001's for the Calais (VE, stock wheels) = $1170.

Anyone bought 245/45 R18 lately? Any good prices? I'm up for two, but seeing as the other two aren't miles behind if the prices are still high I'll go the whole hog and put 20s on the car while I'm at it.

    Bump again,

Time for another set of tyres. Bridgestone just happen to be doing a 4 for 3 until the end of the month.

Been quoted $219 a tyre for S001 in 235/40/R18 (So thats $657 for a set of 4). Seems pretty good value...

Apparently they are very low on stock of the RE003, but the S001 is actually a better tyre? (Quieter and better wet weather grip).

Thoughts? Ive been running various Potenzas for years now, ive been happy but just want to know of theres something better out there. But ~$650 for a premium set of tyres seems pretty good value.

    Cheers

Potenzas are a fantastic tyre and I love them however there is definitely better out there, Michelin Pilot Supersport are the ducks nuts but the Continentals on the F series HSV's are pretty spot on as well. These will obviously cost a bomb more than the Bridgestones at that price though!

the Continentals on my new GEN-F R8 Tourer are the ducks guts... a much better tyre than the Bridgestones that were on my previous SSv wagon (in 19s)
they grip hot or cold better and have less noise. Price wise I checked when I bought the R8 and I was pleasantly surprised with a few retailers showing the smaller
255/35/20 on their sites at $330-$370 and the larger 275/35/20 from $380 which for a 20" tyre is ok I reckon
