Guys have three Acer laptops mainly used for surfing the net that have intermittent wifi connection issues. Anyone in the know is possible to replace or upgrade the wireless cards in these units? They are approx. 12 months old.

Sometimes it is possible, a cheaper alternative will be to buy 3 USB wifi cards. Have you downloaded the latest drivers for the Acer machines?

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the driver for it?
I'd imagine you could replace the wireless card but what about a USB dongle? Can get those little ones that aren't very intrusive, like the cordless mice/keyboard size, you just lose a USB port
Edit - damn, pipped at the post![]()
Yes have upgraded the wifi drivers to latest that suits W7 64 bit OS. Guess if the card can't be replaced will have to go a dongle!
Windows 10 is out today, so maybe try that first. My family have been running it for months and it is pretty reasonable.
Edit - I should add it is free for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 users

I reserved copies of 10 on two of my laptops thinking that today I would get to try it out, found out it could be up to 2 weeks until MS distribute it to me. I am very impatient lol.
Mick, saw some USB high speed gaming wireless dongles at Harvey Norman yesterday, maybe that would be worth trying? As stated above though, you will lose a USB port.
Yeah the strain on the web is going to be insane - I saw a post from Microsoft saying they have reserved upto 40 Tb/s per second of capacity to deliver Win10 and this morning have hit 10Tb/s already. That is why they are rolling it out instead of opening the floodgates, as the 'net couldn't handle it.

Replacing the WIFI module in a laptop is a 2 second job. Here's an article that saves me typing for the next hour....

Just be mindful that if your laptop only has a 2.4Ghz WIFI module from the factory that it will most likely only have a single band 2.4Ghz Antenna (which is built into the laptop and cannot be replaced). That means if you purchase a dual band 2.4/5.8Ghz WIFI module the 5.8Ghz won't work because the antenna won't support that frequency. Not really a huge problem, but worth noting....

I would go for something like this with a good Realtek chipset - and cheap![]()
