VT being the first of the new design had a few quality issues. Also the LS1 had a few issues which should of been fixed by now but it's a lottery.

Older red cars go off in colour unless they have been looked after and lived inside a carport. Otherwise nothing else really, find one in good nic and you can't go wrong.

They're talking about the VTII's. The only issues with them were oil consumption on some of the LS1's but they were all sorted in the first couple of years.

Yeah and the piston slap issues... They should of been fixed but like I said it's a lottery whether it was fixed I doubt most people would even know what piston slap sounds like and not bothered with oil consumption issues. VT 2 was getting better but still had quality issues. There's a reason the VT HSV is dirt cheap.

Pretty much all HSV's are dirt cheap these days. Even VE's are practically a giveaway item.

Lol Dirt Cheap that is all new cars driven off the forecourt

Cheers for the heads up the few concerns and issues to look for

    So is $12000 - 15000 a fair price ??

We had a Red Monaro so aware of the colour concerns but loved the red and shape of that era

15k for a VT R8? You can get a VY for that price
I'd be around 10...even with low kms. Its a buyer's market!

Yeah that budget will definitely get something nicer then a VT that's for sure. Have a look around at carsales and such. Money talks. I would be looking at Y Series 2 Clubsport or even R8 simply because it had the best standard gear.

This one looks like quite a decent car & he has dropped the price to $11,500 in his advert.

Love the red and the shape of the era, me too! If you love the shape of the era have you considered looking for a VX or even better a VXII? You're probably aware, but a genuine R8 in a VX will have climate air, and the HSV Coulsen seats. Standard Clubby has SS type seats but with HSV trim, and brakes will be standard as per an SS (unless they've upgraded), the aircon in a non R8 will be the standard rotary dials. When I look in Carsales etc there are always standard Clubsports advertised as an R8. The R8 is based on a Berlina, hence the climate air.

VY's are nice but the curves of a VX suit our taste better with a V2 Monaro

    Dreaming at that price.

At least aim for VX 2. Upgraded suspension etc.

This doesn't look too bad. Reconditioned engine etc.
