    Ride height/suspension vy ss

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a vy ss wagon. The car rides extremely poorly on bumpy roads and pretty good on smooth roads.

It sits a fair bit lower than my old vz ssz ute so I was convinced it had lower springs/shocks. I finally got some time to look under it today....and everything is standard except rear dampers. WTF.

The rear shocks are kyb g force 344423 fitted to gm 92048210 springs.
Fronts are gm 92158547 with hj 92048199 springs. Car is sitting on 18s

Basically my question is, what is the standard ride height for one of these taxi's? I'm sitting on 350 front ( guard to hub) & 330 in the back.

I bought this car as a bit of a shuttle slut(ss) for weekend adventures so I really want it nicer on kunty county roads, able to go down a dirt road and not jar over every pot hole but would still like it to corner.

I am thinking down the line of some cheaper koni's and keeping standard springs or a few mill lower. But now just confused

    !

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

    Ben

If they're standard springs they're probably soft and saggy by now given their age.
Put some standard/Fe2 height springs in with decent shocks

The Ops ride looks ok in the front, though rear looks shagged to me by the pics. Remember when I fitted 18's to my stock VY one tonne many years ago it too filled the arch much the same.

Standard spring/shocks, set of sway bars and caster bushes will make it turn.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I am comparing this to a completely stock vz ssz Ute I used to own.

It definitely Sits lower. Wheather that is due to sag or not. Funnily enough they are exactly the same wheels. I understand thicker tires will makes it less harsh but my old Ute wasn't that bad. To me it just seems like the suspension isn't working. That's why I was curious about ride height and work back from there. The manual says something about vehicle height 620/640mm but **** know where they measure that from.

I'll take a guess centre of wheel arch to the ground.

For what its worth i recently changed the suspension over on my VY Berlina V8 wagon. Ended up with king springs, monroe short shocks and genuine strut top bearings for around $700 (Did the fitting myself). Made a big difference to the ride quality, although running a 18" tyre will always be somewhat harsh.

Id stick with FE2 height, lowered cars are a pain in the ass. I still scrape my exhaust from time to time (On FE2 height).

Does it change with some weight in the back?

Reckon you done the right thing there, as I found same though the Kings are a pretty stiff spring but they do settle down a fair bit over time.
If you fit Coilovers & 19" wheels to your VY was then you'll end up with harsh!

    Re: Ride height/suspension vy ss

VY SS Wagon are FE2 so I'd go back to that. Riding bad on bumpy roads suggests stuffed shocks, someone correct me if I'm wrong. If they're shagged then they won't absorb the bumps like they should
