Wonder if the mechanic ran out and said 'The ute, the ute, the ute is on fire'
If it has burnt the paint off under the bonnet you want to take a real good look at the bonnet to make sure it isnt warped, thin aluminium and heat dont mix too well, even if the paint on the outside of the bonnet looks fine park it out in the sunlight and the bonnet may be noticeable out of shape.
I would be gutted too if I was in your position. In fact if it was me I'd be pushing the dealer principal blood hard to get a decent change over price on a new SSV with an LS3, make the best of a bad situation.

under insurance laws you can claim on your insurance (no excess and no at fault) and the second person (their insurer) has to accept/deal with it, this happened recently to us where the other person wanted to claim using their preferred repairer etc
use your own insurance - gives you complaint avenue if not happy with job -try getting it fixed without the run around if your dealing with the dealer - fuel vapour is enough to light your fire on hot exhaust or static from spinning belt is possible and other possibilities
Matter is under investigation.
Very disappointing how the fire started, should never of happened.
will keep you posted.
Had a look at it yesterday and there is some damage behind the engine on the firewall.
Engine will need to come out, and the dry chem powder from the extinguisher has made a mess
Bloke from the customer care referred to it as a "Thermal incident"
Fuggin' corporate mumbo jumbo
