Remove your speedo cluster and find the purple wire with white trace.
Hi Guys,
I've just installed a new Pioneer head unit with GPS Navigation and I'm supposed to connect my vehicles speed signal wire into the head unit. This allows the NAV to know where it's going once in a tunnel and the GPS aerial doesn't work anymore.
So I've searched the web and been told it's a purple/white wire but the answers for it location are inconsistent. So far it's either on the drivers side firewall in a group of connectors or it's located in the left hand corner of the dash...maybe for when the factory SAT NAV units were installed. So does anyone know exactly where it is before I start pulling my car apart again?
BTW, my car is a 2004 VY SS. Thanks guys

Man that is one advanced head unit![]()
That would be the closest spot to you HU. If you carefully peel back the inso on the cluster loom cut & solder, good to use some heat shrink too.I'd prefer to tap into this wire at another junction point or connector.
I had to do the same when I fitted the twin GTO guages to my VZ.
I found an easier way. I asked a guy from a car audio shop. He told me that the vss wire is located on the passenger side behind the glove box... it is in a plug on the left hand side and it is purple with a white trace
This is the ISO connector with the VSS wire.
Pull out the glovebox and you'll see it on the left hand side attached to a clip
That's for the accessories the cops use.... Makes sense VSS is in there
& probably for sat/nav on higher models too.
