Most important question... what oil weight are you running?
OK guys i have searched but cant find anything to try before i pull the oil pump.
vy ss stock ls1. 215 k on the clock
Ok start her up in the morning and not a sound no lifter tic nothing..still sounds new.
go for an 30 min drive and she starts to tick.
the other day had low oil warning and she was rattling as i shut it down.
So i shut it down for 1 min and restart and all is fine ???? this works for the tic as well good to go for another 30 min.
OK So
I have flushed the engine ...
Today going to put an oil pressure gauge in so whats the best place for my sender ?
Can i clean the oil pick up if i just drop sump in car?
Could it just be the O ring on the pick up?
pressure relief valve?
So many things but has anyone come accross this before?
My plans are just to change the pump etc if i can't pinpoint.

With those K's would be either relief valve/oil pump, though to access the relief valve/spring the timing cover needs to come off anyhow, you may be able to insert a small cam up the sump plug hole though doubt it's the oil pickup. A Melling 10296 is a very decent replacement for these.
Sorry for the late reply but on chemo so been crook.
HPR 10 / 50 is what we have in it after we did an oil flush and it's better but still ticks when hot.turn off for ten seconds and restart and tick gone.
Was going to try HPR 20 / 60 ???
Anyone tell me best spot to hook up oil pressure gauge?
That Melling 10296 oil pump is the one i have ready to go.
Sucks about your chemo, hopefully it's a successful result for you, I've had mates go through it.
The oil gallery bung on the front left of the block, plumb the cover plate just above the oil filter or where the factory sender unit goes behind the intake (a pain in the arse with the intake on) are about your only options, pick the easiest one to get at.
A Melling 10296 is way overkill in a standard engine with factory clearances (even old ones) but it's your money and choice, good luck getting it sorted.

The 5.7 we did with over 100K never sounded as quiet in the train until that pump was fitted.A Melling 10296 is way overkill in a standard engine with factory clearances (even old ones) but it's your money and choice, good luck getting it sorted.
Thanks about the chemo but that's life....
