Is it worth hitting up a wheel/tyre shop in Sydney to see if they have any boxes from rims they've sold?
Mick
Beginning to almost regret my eBay purchase of 4 effectively brand new rims and tyres due to hassles with getting them from Sydney to Melbourne.
On reading all the reviews it seems nobody is to be trusted for safely getting them down eg. Smartsend, e-go even Pack and Send have heaps of bad reviews.
The seller is willing to help out as much as he can in terms of preparing for shipping so I just started looking at heavy duty cardboard boxes or similar to pack them in but can't find anything big enough to suit. He told me they'd just fit inside a 70cm x 70cm box (height doesn't matter as can cut them down). 30cm high would do for the fronts with extra packing on rim faces for protection, maybe 35cm for the rear but the biggest boxes I can find on Google (box companies, Bunnings, Officeworks etc) are just under 60cm.
Any strong but not heavy alternatives I hadn't thought of?![]()

Way better off putting all 4 on a pallet and shipping them that way. Will work out cheaper too.
Get the seller to find an old pallet. Companies give away their generic pallets as they are a PIA to them. Layer of carboard on the bottom of the pallet. Then lay the rims down and a couple of layers on the top. Then Pallet wrap a heap of times. They will stay snug on the pallet. Shipping this way is a lot cheaper as it can be moved with a forklift and no one needs to lift anything manually. You should be able to get that pallet delivered to a depot near you for less than $100.

Alternatively jump on gumtree and either place an add or see who is offering lifts.
people with larger cars often offer lifts to help cover costs, you might find someone with a 4wd or wagon who'll bring them down at a reasonable price.
I once purchased a wheel package online off Est Coast Tyre and Auto, they put a soft sponge sheet on face off wheel followed by cardboard on front and back, with entire wheel and tyre plastic wrapped. Maybe give wheel shop that ship wheels near the seller a call, and wrangle something, they might point you right direction who to use for freight.

Hey Gazzzzzzzz,
I think you need to put your little trailer on the back & go for a road trip in that weapon of yours.![]()
I'll road trip with you to pick up Gaz, I don't mind driving in your car you don't chew my ear off
Edelbrocks idea is a goer, but will need to stack them as a standard pallet is only 1100 x 1100

I get my boxes dumpster diving out the back of places like home maker centres etc, you will find quality cardboard ones.
Wonky, I sold a set of wheels last year and used smart send, the buyer was very happy. I put some bubble wrap on the face of the wheel, placed a large cardboard square on the wheel and cut the shape of the wheel around all four corners so I could fold the flaps down onto the tyre tread, then masking tape around the tyre a few times to hold the cardboard in place. I then put two loops of Telstra rope, threaded through the wheel nut holes, tied up to make carrying handles for each wheel. Worked really well.

Emailed two different Pack and Send locations up there. Quotes for shipping to Motorsport Wheels and Tyres Dandenong who I always use were 1. $330 and 2. $559![]()
including insurance of just over $3000.
I'm reluctant to use e-go based on many negative reviews I've read on them, main problem being if/when something goes wrong there is no phone number for contact.![]()
