    Re: VE Engine Light

From the bit of light reading I did, it seems a common mod in the states as the converters are very cheap. Standard LSA converter stalls around the 2k mark, obviously increasing as your engine torque increases. A lot of places like Circle D can modify them to stall around 2500 cheaply as well. Only difference they're saying is 6 holes on the 6L90 converter vs 3 on the 6L80 but they still match up so you only use 3 holes out of the 6...couldn't tell you if this is the same for our cars but a lot of guys have done it on a wide range of vehicles. All of this said, I'm not sure you could source one cheap locally, may just be easier getting one built from a reputable company, then you know exactly where it's going to stall to and that it will fit!

I've heard the same about 6L90 convertors but was warned off about the 3-bolt v 6-bolt thing. Are there still any trans shop experts on here that can let all of us know if the 3-bolt will hold everything together happily?

To keep it on topic, you can check for stored codes (and clear them) with Torque Pro on your Android phone. Just need an ELM324 OBDII BT dongle out of Hong Kong for $10.

We tried one of the bluetooth units and a wireless one when my wife's previous 06 AH Astra kept throwing codes. Neither of them could even find a fault!!

Cheers. Mine drives perfect 99 percent of the time, it is just on the odd occasion that it has a fit that is TC related that causes the car to run like a dog. Brad reckons
a small stall will fix it and that the stock converter cannot handle the cam and blower combo. At the moment I am just driving it with TC turned off, this is not an acceptable
    solution to me though.

    VE Engine Light

I just put a 13" TCE lockup stall converter in my wagon two weeks ago. Stall speed is around 2200rpm but it flashes more due to the torque of the LSA blower. It drives real nice on the street. Tight but flashes when you really stand on it.

6L90 stock stall rpm is a bit higher than the 6L80 stall.

I did check with Holden and trade price for a 6L90 converter was around $500 and a 2-4 week wait.

Correct with the 6 bolt vs 3 bolt info.

I also have the Camaro deep pan with wide mouth filter and factory GTS trans cooler installed.

Stall converter prices will vary quite a bit. Factory reconditioned through to TCE, Dominator and then USA made. Price will be anywhere from $400 to $2000.

Thanks for the info mate, all helpful. Do you mind if I ask how much the TCE cost?

$1095 delivered mate. Takes about a week to make and then postage time. They were great to deal with.

I flushed the trans with new fluid and swapped the pan filter at the same time too just to be safe.

Brain not as functional as it used to be. 327 is the correct item. Not sure on that particular one. Mine looks longer than that one as is black plastic. Doubt it matters.

My aftermarket converter recently disintegrated from excessive torque and sent all its pieces in to the trans so I would get on to it sooner rather than later....I used to race it a fair bit but it hasn't seen the track for a couple of years, drive like a granny, never got hot, etc etc just decided enough was enough and packed it in lol

    Re: VE Engine Light

110% correct white lie. Converter fails and any metal fragments, clutch lining etc will go straight into gearbox vane pump and then distributed through whole gearbox

Failure of the converter usually leads to failure of the gearbox. Then the annoying issue of flushing lines, radiator, trans cooler etc.
