    VE coolant overflow leak

Has anyone ever had the coolant overflow tank fail on their VE V8? Had a couple of drops of coolant on the shed floor this morning (right under the overflow). When I
jumped underneath and had a quick look the bottom of the overflow tank is covered in coolant. Hard to see where it is coming from and looks like the tank is an absolute bastard
to get out as well. Replacement is only about $30, but is it as difficult as it looks to remove?

    Re: VE coolant overflow leak

Plenty of the coolant bottles on cars these days are molded in 2 parts & glued together in the factory.

I know it's quite common for the Fords to have the top section come apart from the bottom on the join.

I had one of mine (on a Ford) just starting to weep about a month ago
I only luckily noticed a very slight residue of coolant around the edges & could not see exactly any cracks, splits or leaks.

Was told it's common, the glue starts to break down,
next minute, if they build up a bit of pressure they can start to split so it can get much worse all of a sudden.

I was also told to only buy genuine because the glue on the cheap ones is nowhere near as good so they can split apart much sooner.

Hey Ed, thanks for the reply

I did notice that there is a small amount of coolant around the join that you speak of, but the VE tank seems to come in two pieces and just press together. So no glue
involved. Or are you referring to the seam that is in the middle of the actual tank itself, not the spout that clips on?

Yeah Rod, I might be leading you up the garden path but it's highly likely it's not entirely molded in one piece.

Even the picture you posted looks like it has a seem as you can see where I highlighted (sorry I did a poor job!)
in the top picture of the pictures below.
I would be pretty sure that it would be glued together in the factory along there.

Anyway, regardless, it looks like you will need to keep an eye on it.

I think you have to take off the under guard to get it off.

Best of luck with it mate!

Thanks Ed. When I had a second look it clicked that you meant that seam Reckon I will just order one and replace, can't see it being anything else leaking coolant
in that area of the car.

Yeah Rod, unless it's a hose or that slip in joint
but I guess you would have checked all those?

    Re: VE coolant overflow leak

Just realised that the item I have posted above is for a V6. When I look at the images for V8 they seem to be exaclty the same part. Anyone know if this is the case?
If not, will duck into Holden tomorrow and confirm.

That will most likely be Metro Holden,

I wonder what brand of car they will be selling there at the end of the year,
as I have heard very strong rumours that it will not be Holden.

I was just pointing out it's listed as the same part number to fit the V6 & V8 Rod.

    Good stuff Rod,

just make certain it's a genuine Holden part not an aftermarket brand mate.
