Captiva oil filter

Hi all, I'm looking for the oil filter on my Holden Captiva Diesal, I know it's small but could they have forgot to put it on Anyway if some one could give me the location, a brief discription of what it looks like and if possible a picture that would make me very happy as it has already cost a fortune for the oil plus the other servicing bits and pieces.

It is a cartridge style filter that fits inside a vertical canister attached to an oil cooler (with 2 hoses coming out of it) at the rear of the block as you look at the engine, just behind the timing belt cover on the drivers side of the engine bay.

Thanks, is it just under a couple of hoses and has a sort of black cover with a hex type of nut on it?? That is the hex nut is built into the cover and it's like you say upside down so it looks like oil goes every where when you change it. Thanks heaps.

Yes hex nut on top.
Oil shouldn't go everywhere as you only unscrew the cap for the oil filter housing, not the whole housing itself.

He he. Oil will go everywhere! If you look even closer on the bottom housing there is a hex bolt on the side. This is the drain plug for the filter housing/bowl. You should undo this and drain the oil in a controlled way. Only after this has drained fully get onto the top hex and unscrew the filter cover. The filter is a plain paper cartridge type that costs enough to negate the entire fuel savings over the petrol Captiva between services. If you then use the special GM recommended oil you will cry.

Couldn't remember fully, so was looking in SI Service Information for the earlier answer about it's location, rather than the draining method.

So what. At dinner parties you can impress everyone at how you use //ONLY// 9.5l/100km and how great it is. LOL

Meantime you could have driven a 6.0 V8 and got all that service stuff for $140 incl top notch oil and enjoyed the pleasures of a V8 burning real fuel. Honestly, diesels are great but when people say their Golf TDi does xx mileage I call them a w@nkar and tell them to wait for when servicing comes around.

Also, is the hew cap about 28mm? It seem to have two small clips on it. I have tried to undo it but it is just not budging. Can you change the filter after you put the new oil in? Probably not I would assume?

Pretty sure the Captiva and Cruze are the same. The oil filter housing on our Cruze is always tight to remove. Socket + breaker bar to crack it and it will spin off by hand. Never had oil go everywhere either.
