Looking at a car on the weekend

    Hi all,

    https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/d...AG-AD-15135609

I am potentially look at this car in the link on the weekend. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any information about it? Possibly its history, or someone knows the car.. anything really that will help.

Seems odd.. has a W310 badge on it but says it has cam and heads done. Something doesn’t add up.

Link doesn't seem to work for me...but it's not uncommon to put a cam in after and seperately from WP, especially if you don't want to get reamed

That’s very true. Walkinshaw would have changed a fortune for a cam upgrade.

It says it was fitted by a Walky dealer, so may have been done with or after the 310 pack, its just not the 407 or whatever their cam package is...they don't usually do heads with their cams though. You'd have to speak to the dealer and see what they say or what receipts they have

Just be aware, that Walkinshaw warranties on their Mega Over Priced Products, Expire!!!..... once the car reaches 3 years old from first registration ( brand new car ), Regardless............ of when the products were fitted.

So once the car is 3 years old.... The Walkinshaw warranty is 100% totally Null and Void...

    Hi

If someone were to fit a Walkinshaw Supercharger kit yesterday and the supercharger failed tomorrow and the car also became 3 years old tomorrow, Walkinshaw can say all that they want, Australian Consumer Law is their for the consumer and should protect us owners in the event that something like this should happen.

Re: Looking at a car on the weekend

My mate had a WP2300 supercharger fitted by WP to his 2011 E3 well after it was 3 years old (less than 2 years ago) and there is no way he would have done that without a warranty! In fact, their warranty is the only reason he paid through the nose for them to do it (and they didn't do a very good job).

Here is the wording direct from the Walkinshaw Perfornmance... Product Disclosure Statement (PDS)...

"The coverage and term of this Warranty begins on the Fitment Date and ends on the earlier to occur of:

    (i) The 36 month anniversary of the date that the Vehicle is first registered with the applicable government motor vehicle authority (“Registration Date”); and/or
(ii) The date that the Vehicle has travelled 100,000kms after the Registration Date.
This Warranty is included in the fitted price of WP230 Supercharger."

So unless you have the Walkinshaw S/C fitted on the same day that the Brand new car is first registered, the 36 months starts ticking down straight away, so useless...

So buying a Walkinshaw S/C, your paying Premium Pricing for a warranty that they use as a Marketing Tool...... to Justify their Premium Pricing, but looking at the fine print.... you can only get the full 3 year term, if it's fitted onto a brand spanking new car, the day that it's first registered.

    Rubbish...

The OEM warranty would go straight out the window anyway, with an aftermarket supercharger fitted regardless...

Paying Premium pricing for a product...... Why should you have to fall back on "Australian Consumer Law"......

I may be wrong, but I think you are getting confused here. The warranty they say will expire is the actual factory warranty ie if the engine fails due
to the fitting of a WP modification then they will honor the factory warranty. The warranty on parts fitted ie Supercharger or exhaust or camshaft would be a totally
different warranty. So if you were to have a WP Blower fitted at the 35 month mark and then the motor pops at 37 months why should they warrant that, you
took the risk putting FI into an older motor, your problem But if the blower shits itself that is a different matter altogether

The Walkinshaw Performance warranty is provided by Walkinshaw... It has nothing to do with / or connection, with the OEM factory Warranty...

The car just has to be still under the OEM factory warranty (ie less than 36 months old), for the Walkinshaw driveline warranty to be applied when fitting their S/C.

As soon as the car reach 36 months old, it's no longer covered see below.

"This Warranty is provided by WP, and accepted by the Customer, for valuable consideration, including the payment/s made by the Customer to WP or the WP licensed installer on or about the Contract Date.

For a vehicle to be eligible for the driveline warranty it must still be under the manufacturer’s new vehicle warranty.

The coverage and term of this Warranty begins on the Fitment Date and ends on the earlier to occur of:

    (i) The 36 month anniversary of the date that the Vehicle is first registered with the applicable government motor vehicle authority (“Registration Date”); and/or

(ii) The date that the Vehicle has travelled 100,000kms after the Registration Date.

This Warranty is fully transferrable, and continues for the benefit of all subsequent owners of the Vehicle until the end of the term described above:

This Warranty is included in the fitted price of WP230 Supercharger."

Fitting FI to your car, the OEM factory warranty would be void... and you wouldn't even worry about it.

But, if your paying a serious premium for a Walkinshaw SC... they market their warranty as a selling point of their premium pricing... but it is very restricted / limited IMO...

Re: Looking at a car on the weekend

So the car I was looking at was originally a W310 package and had all the certificates to match which was good. The cam and heads where done after at the same place the walkinshaw bits where put on. The car is no longer a W310 though as after that it had 324rwkw. Which is all well and good but I think it made it a tough/sloppy ride (I understand a decent size cam will do that) which just didn’t feel nice in a newer car. Took away the new feel to it.

I later on went and looked at another VF SSV which had an exhaust intake and tune done by walkinshaw and had a little less Kms and I was actually more impressed. Better note believe it or not. Drove better. Not sloppy like the cammed one and had more useable power. The cammed one only really came alive after 4000rpm.

Is there that much difference between a redline and SSV?

VF Redline has no power increase from SSV, it does have larger four wheel Brembo brakes, staggered 19" rims. Some interior minor changes, external badging.
Sounds like the first one you looked at was a pig or poorly tuned perhaps.

Well rims were changed on both to 20” so that is the same. Brembo brakes would have been nice.. could probably fit them later if I feel I need them.

Yeah I’m not too sure to be honest.. seemed to have been tuned at a pretty reliable place.

I wonder exactly which workshop / Walkinshaw franchise actually did the work?

I heard there have been some workshops / Walkinshaw franchises have changed over the past few years.
