Your Step Father sounds like a very stylish man.
It's the day before I leave, and one of my key fobs has given up the ghost. Holden dealers want 200-250 for a key cut and fob coded, but I only need the fob part. Which supercheap have for $30 (Holden guy said they're unreliable), or Holmart have genuine ones for 69. Is there an economical way to get a fob coded in Melbourne when I get there?

I have used the Key Shell replacements like the ones linked below
You just have to take the guts out of the old key shell & put them in the new one.

I had a good look at the fob and it looks impenetrable. Do you have to cut them open?

Thanks whitels1ss, I'll get a cheap casing before I leave and butcher the old key later. At least the key still works manually!

Easiest way to do this is heat up a blade & carefully run it around your old case to extract the electronics.

    Good idea Mick!

I know it tells you that you don't need to do it (& they are just supposed to click together)
but I normally check everything is working, then I open the new shell up again & superglue it back together just to be sure.

    Re: Interstate Ride

Tour going good. Stato is great - put a little oil (a touch too much - he's got a bit of a smelly donk atm) in Melbourne. Played Canberra last night. En route Newcastle today. I'm comfy in the back seat, doing this. Where is a good place in Newcastle to get wheels balanced/aligned? No other probs really - using a tiny bit of PS fluid, and there's a bit of a knock in the steering occasionally turning from a standing start - neither of those bother me. The engine is missing a tiny bit under very hard acceleration, I put a bottle of injector cleaner through it yesterday and that's improved things a bit. It doesn't affect normal driving. Life is good
    Any Newcastle recommendations?

It's in a Streamline Automotive tuning in Beresfield Newcastle, missing problems got worse overnight after the 7 hour drive from Canberra yesterday. Really nice helpful guys, they've taken it in straight away to look at it. I'm sitting around the corner at a BP roadhouse, waiting - for a couple of hours

Plus 8 new plugs and leads and minus $580 we are back on the road. Let's hope this fixes the problem!
