Keep it. It's a great car.
Well my missus, who thought I had rocks in my head "that's a stupid idea" "you'll break down - it will be a disaster" "I'm having nothing to do with that" now regrets not coming and wants to schedule another trip across to visit some of her rellies and friends in Melbourne. That might be Feb/mar next year. Needless to say, I won't be selling the car straight away now that I'm back, which was the deal when I bought it
Keep it. It's a great car.
Hi again
Off again WA-> Hunter Valley for a 40 minute performance at a Festival (Dashville Skyline in Belford)
The missus is coming this time (now that the car is proven)
We will do some sight-seeing to make the trip worth while
Its only done about 1000kms since I had it serviced last October on my return
so I'll get the oil changed (I think the filter might survive) get a once-over, and be off
I will buy an electric Shu-roo for this trip, given the reported number of Kangaroos on the road mid-NSW die to the drought!
I may need to find a new servicer in Perth. My favourite (WA Performance and Servicing in Bibra Lake) is not answering the phone and I fear they may have gone out of business
Any WA members with recommendations for servicing in Perth?
When are you heading off mate?
23 September. Don’t have to be in Belford until 28th, so we can afford to take it easy. Cars getting serviced on Wednesday, I got in touch with my preferred guys (WA Performance - they only do LSx cars)
Have an enjoyable & safe trip.![]()

Getting all hi-techie in the kangaroo/emu/camel avoidance space
With a road trip to the Hunter Valley at the end of this month, and with the explosion in Kangaroo populations, and with the Camels having now made it to the SA coastline, I’m bringing out the expensive hippie remedy. Cheap hippie remedies are a dime/dozen and no big deal to endorse (I’ve used the whistles for years). I’ve put my money down for the Big Kahuna/the grand Osho/ the full Fonda of animal deterrents - THE SHU ROO.
I did read today, unfortunately, and due to the rapidly expanding population, a virus has rendered a higher than normal proportion of the kanga population totally deaf - and therefore immune to this device. Oh, well. Its the Camels that really freak me out
Car came back from its service OK. They replaced the 2000km old oil and filter, did the service thing and replaced a couple of belts and pulleys (which was where the cold ticking was coming from which I had assumed was a lifter)
All good to go. Just have to work out how best to mount this Shu Roo (have started a separate thread on plastic front bumpers and best way to mount stuff on them) deal with a loose back panel (a dual purpose screw has come out of the mudlap, I think) and build up some padding on my door striker (I think there is some rubbery tape I can wind around that, even as a temporary fix) AND IM GOOD TO GO
Oh, and I will endorse WIPERTECH wipers while I am here. At my wife's insistence, and reluctantly, I replaced the wipers with the Wipertech units. A significant improvement, I was surprised. My wife cant get the sheet-eating grin off her face.
We leave tomorrow morning 6 am Bridgetown to Balladonia is the goal. I’ll post updates here and leave the “mounting plastic bumper” thread for discussion about mounting things on plastic bumpers!
Made it to Balladonia. Sun sets half an hour earlier than Perth here (5.30). Sunrise 5.30 am, heading for Ceduna. Car ran brilliantly, as usual
Ceduna is great! We stayed in what is now the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel. Make sure your locked in the compound before dark... You'll see why!
You did well getting to Belladonia, that's quite the first days driving - How's the fuel price? It was the most expensive on my trip. Norseman was 30c cheaper p/litre.
10.5 l/100km sitting on 120 most of the day (2000rpm)
