If it's cammed, chances are it's tune related more than anything else.
Nothing to do with it being a Maloo
Hi
I’m looking for ideas about what could be causing issues in my Maloo Ute.
The car is a 2011 HSV Maloo 6.2 automatic with a stage 2 cam and 3inch exhaust.
In manual mode @ 6000 revs changing 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd the car ‘stalls’, being jolted forward in the seat in a violent lurch.
The car has been in several workshops, and seems to be temporarily fixed before it starts happening again.
Is this problem known to Maloo utes? Does anybody know what is happening here?
Thanks
Michael

Agree - A6 tune related. Lots of people claim to be able to tune them but very few are actually capable of doing a decent job. Many just up the line pressures and try to get it changing more quickly than it's physically capable of (some tuning software allows it) - destroys the box long term, especially if driven hard.
Also sounds like you're talking about flaring on changes - very common, especially on 2-3 shifts.
Either that or stall converter needs changing to suit that cam, Why I hate Autos with a passion!!
Sounds as if you may be holding it in gear too long & it's hitting ("bouncing off") the rev limiter.
Perhaps the tacho is under reading or the rev limiter is set too low? (I really doubt it.)
They have a maximum rev limiter or cut out so you can't over rev the engine past whatever it is set at. From memory stock is about 6200rpm.
I would not suggest lifting the stock rev limiter settings by much unless you replace the con rod bolts at least.
As wonky posted.... the manual shifts on these boxes are not instant so you might move the selector at 6,000
but it revs further hitting the rev limiter cut out before it changes.
You could try moving the shifter at 5,600 or 5,700rpm to try & get it right.
Mate easiest thing is to leave it in auto & leave the gear changes to the tune. (You did not mention having any problems with shifting in auto mode.)

Oops, missed "manual mode".
Manual mode is more fun but auto is faster as has been proven many times.
I'd guess the reason its temporarily fixed after they touch it is they are resetting the learned values which over time learn back to what they were.
I've only just started playing with 6L80E tuning and it is very complicated, I don't think there are too many tuners who have a real good handle on it.
I actually doubt that it's a tuning issue as there is only a problem when the guy is manually shifting the gears.
On a side note........
