Tailem Motorsport Park master plan revealed

Well the place has changed hands & the new owner is looking on having it fully upgraded this year.

"A lot of people heard talk for a year or two, but this is the first time they've graphically seen how it might come together," Mr Cammell said.

"(Feedback has) all been very positive ... the level of support is unheard of.

The master plan has been lodged with the State Government's Development Assessment Commission for approval.

The design includes a three-configuration race track and pits, drag strip, burn-out pad, rally track, four-wheel-drive adventure park, drift circuit and garaging, skid pan, go-karting facility, BMX tracks, cycling trails, and water sports facilities.

Supporting facilities include an industrial estate, an airstrip and helipad, an On The Run service station, expo building, hotel motel, caravan park, camping ground, dining and bar facilities, vendor outlets, broadcasting facilities, grandstands and paddock garages.

"It's moving ahead quite nicely ... I suspect it will take a couple of months to assess something of this complexity." Mr Cammell said a highlight of the 1900-acre park design was a 7.2-kilometre race track, which could potentially hold a V8 Supercars race as early as 2016.

"I believe it's the largest in the southern hemisphere," he said.

"People talk about Bathurst, but this is bigger and a higher standard."

Re: Tailem Motorsport Park master plan revealed

Again in the news this week......

"A SECOND V8 Supercars event could be scheduled for South Australia in the second half of next year, organisers say.

The Advertiser can reveal the next step in the state’s bid for a sister event to the Clipsal 500 has fallen into place with the lodgement of plans with the State Government this week by the Peregrine Corporation for a $40 million, 768ha motorsport park at Tailem Bend.

V8 Supercars spokesman Cole Hitchcock told The Advertiser that with fast-tracked approval from the State Government’s Development Assessment Commission and a construction finalisation date of early next year, a Tailem Bend event could be in place for the second half of 2016.

“Tailem Bend is absolutely on our radar and 2016 is absolutely a possibly now, no question. We haven’t put a time frame to the idea, but this is now one step closer,’’ he said.

“It is too early to say when in 2016 because each calender is so complex to put together and it is about all the events and not just the two SA races.

Two-hundred-and-fifty pages of plans lodged with the Development Assessment Commission reveal for the first time the scope of the Tailem Bend project, which will lay claim to being the largest and best in the nation.

The V8 track will be built to international standards and will be 1km longer that the iconic 6.2km Bathurst Mount Panarama circuit.

Also included is a 100m-long, four-storey pit and corporate box facility, a 100-room four star hotel, a 2km-long bitumen runway for small planes, including jets up to 12-seaters, a drag strip, a 4wd track, rally track, caravan park, industrial estate, indoor 600m go kart track and permanent grandstand seating for 10,000."

Re: Tailem Motorsport Park master plan revealed

ASBK will be racing there too, very shortly...

"The Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) is excited to announce an enormous step forward for road racing in the Asia Pacific region in 2018. The FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) will head down under for an inaugural Australian round. The ARRC and ASBK will join forces at the newly created and amazing, The Bend Motorsport Park on 19-22 April for round three of ASBK.

This is a great development for ASBK and shows the championship is on the rise and is grabbing attention from all over the world. Motorcycling Australia (MA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Doyle couldn’t be happier with the expansion of the championship and knows just how much work has gone in to bring ARRC to our shores.

Bringing the ARRC to Australia is something that has been in MA’s plans since 2014 and to finally get them is a huge boost for our ASBK championship. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes and this has just topped off what was a great 2017 season for ASBK as we reached new levels with audiences via attendance, Television and live streaming.

Former World Superbike Champion and ASBK ambassador Troy Bayliss echoed MA CEO Peter Doyle’s positivity about ARRC joining ASBK in South Australia.

Having Australia join the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will provide another pathway for Australian riders to compete at an international level which is fantastic for the development of the sport.

FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will mark their first appearance in Australia at The Bend Motorsport Park. It also marks ASBK’s first visit to South Australia since 2009.

With two championships on the roster, you get four days of racing! Free entry on Thursday!

The Bend Motorsport Park is one of the most significant developments in Australian motorsport history. A state-of-the-art, world-class motorsport facility. The Bend will deliver an exhilirating experience for competitors, enthusiasts and spectators alike.

The Bend’s International Circuit’s 18 turns are designed to encourage thrilling racing with corners offering passing opportunities and innovative racing lines.
